I'm Feeling a little better about envelope editing

I was just playing with envelopes and I see that I can double click on one so that it both selects and places a node... that moves it  closer to practical for me... I didn't like the idea of selecting first but as long as it accomodates the dbl-click in this way, I can pretty much work as before (We'll see how comfortable it is to get back to clip editing without going to the danged event filter....

;-)

Happy New Year! Something good!

You can also Alt+click when using the Smart tool. That actually adds and selects the node.

    Thanks Scott...

I'll try it in a bit... Does that mean I'll be able to hold that click and drag it in a single "command"? We'll see... ;-)

Yeah Baby! that's more what I like to see/hear...

I don't think I'll do that often as I usually need to enter a group of precisely located nodes before I start making my adjustments... (Do I remember a command that entered a pair of nodes in a single click?)...

But to me, this is an improvement... One of a few I'm slowly finding buried in the un-mentioned... ;-)

thanks for bringing these to my attention...

Are there some tricks such as these for going back to clip mode operations?

The Groove 3 video is highly recommended to help get a start on much of the new interface.

Free via Music Tech magazine for everybody, or through Sweetwater if you bought your upgrade there.

There are a couple of other threads here that will point you there.

    Hi Keni,

Tip 1: Shift+click on the clip background with the Smart tool to quickly get back to clip editing.

Tip 2: While editing envelopes, drag below the envelope to make a selection. Then click and hold above the envelope to automatically create nodes at selection boundaries. While continuing to hold, drag up/down to raise/lower that section of the envelope.

how about if you have 2 envelopes on the track, say a volume and pan.  You use to be able to just click on either line to move. now it appears you need to mouse over to the pull down window to switch envelopes, which by the way takes 3 mouse clicks/movements to change... this is very cumbersome. If they wante to add 3 mouse click,, why stop there, why not add 5 or 6 if there trying to slow us dow.   errg. annoyed at envelopes

I am learning to function X1 as it is intended and it is a learning curve, but as you discovered today, Im liking pretty much everything about it.

Envelopes and nodes RESPOND way better which is huge for me!

Glad you found something good! I keep finding little goodies here and there lol

So your ok with having to keep one hand on the keyboard and do multiple clicks compared to the old point and click without 2 hands or multiple clicks... maybe i'm missing something or doing something wrong. can you please explain what makes this new way better? I really want to learn to like it.
But I don't want to have to start driving 5 mph under the speed limit when I'm use to driving 5 over. The only benefit I can see to the new way is if you happen to have to envelopes exatly on top of each other. but that hardley ever happend and is not worth all this back and forth activity. I see losing huge amounts of time on a meduim size project with all the pausing to change modes. there was no modes before... simply point and click

The usual gripe before X1 was that if you had 3- 4 envelopes on the same track you couldn't just point one of them if they were overlapping.....

Shift-clicking to explicitely define which envelope you want to work with sounds like a clever idea to me.

I won't comment on your concern that you now have to use both hands, because you might find my comment offensive! But FWIW, I have always been using both hands with Sonar, one at the keyboard the other on the mouse when editing.
