I'm Out of INtELLIGANCE***

I'm ending up spending 90% of the time trying to figure out what i've done wrong and 10% actually playing. Comes with the territory. I am coming to the conclusion that I need some kind of checklist because to the senility and chronic amnesia. If it weren't for this forum I might be still working on opening the box GTP3 came with. How have I missed out on all this technology? There's a generation gap. But I guess I'll probably remain a bozo on the bus, never learning to tpye or spels. It sure is fun though!
I'm still afraid to punch-in, use automation, move clips etc. But one day ..one day ....just maybe .....

Bill, don't be afraid to try anything - just make a copy of your project and mess about to your heart's content, then delete it if you screw it up. You'll learn loads by just having a go.

Bill - we've all been there mate.

Maybe not in GT, but in another program, or maybe even using recording hardware.

Nobody knows how to use any of this stuff natively - it all has to be learned, as does everything really - that's why we have teachers and text-books

These forums are just one part of the jigsaw.

However, and I can speak for myself here, the most important factor in getting to grips with this stuff is a willingness to learn. I can relate to this because my first question in here was basically asking how to get pre-recorded drum loops on my system into a GT project! Guys like Doc, James and Robert took me under their wing and I've never looked back!

In complete contrast to a certain imbecile who frequents this forum, you have demonstrated this willingness to learn and the knack of asking the 'right' questions.

Bill, I guarantee that sometime in the very near future, you'll start doing stuff without even thinking about it - there will come a day when all the information gels together and you'll be on auto-pilot.

But, and it's an enormous 'but' - you'll be doing the 'right' things and understanding why you're doing them.

Then you can just concentrate 100% on what you're undoubtably good at - playing that geetar

You'll get help from this forum, the Songs forum, and by IM from Doc and myself if we can help - believe me Bill, in just a short while, you'll be telling the new guys in here how its done - believe me

    Steve

The bad thing has been, for me, something really simple i overlooked. If I hadn't talked to Alan I don't think I would have finished "so wonderful"today. I thought I un-checked the loop button but after looking and doing EVERYTHING else there it was.

I just thought up a tune for Christmas but I think it would sound much better on a folk guitar. I need to do some string bending and that don't happen well on the nylon strings. My neighbor has one . I've got to get this one down on tape

    Bill,

Cool slide on Old Man Joe. What open tuning are you using?

Wonderful is a cool tune too. Keep 'em coming Bill.

Old Man Joe Is standard tuning and wonderful is dropped D . The Christmas song i'm working up is standard also. I can tell I'm reading the lyrics on Old Man joe. Once I figure out how to do a good recording I'll redo everything. I'm slowly figuring out how record. The microphone is a $15 Radio Shack model. I need a new mic for sure.

Its taken a bit of time but I now realize that "Blues" is without doubt my preferred favourite style of music. Up until now I've been messing with keyboard (Synths) and doing okay but I've decided to dust down the old guitar and get practising.

Come on, give mme a clue, what gear are you using that makes that great guitar lead sound???

Hey Alan - yeah blues does it for me too. As you've probably gathered from my music, my take on "blues" is that it doesn't have to be limited to a straight 12-bar type progression - it's more of a vibe than a set of narrow rules - the old time blues guys didn't limit themselves to 12-bars. Love jazzing up the chord progressions.

Sound-wise the guitar used on Minor Daze was a Fender Prodigy (a cut down version of a Strat - Fender don't make 'em anymore - but they weren't an expensive guitar, but I love it, great feel, great tone) played through a TonePort UX2 - if you are using a TonePort yourself I can send you the patch.

Of course 90% of tone comes from your fingers
