I'm almost ready...

.. for the CHB World Tour.

I get my new FOH/Recording mixer tomorrow.
Bye bye to racks of gates, you never have enough anyway.
Bye bye to racks of compressors, you always end up adjusting the the controls on the wrong one and wondering why the sound isn't changing.
Bye bye to racks of graphic EQs and FX processors...

I bought a StudioLive 24.4.2   (I got it cheap, including a flight case)

And it can be fully remote controlled from my iPad.

That is amazing, all the Horse and Belts of Destiny plus all the Trees and more are encapuslated in the Fat Channel for each strip.

All at less than the price of a single boutique analogue strip.

That to me is the kind of added warmth I'd be after over a some sentiment surrounding a clunky antique.

You don't even need to have your gear placed among all the drunken 'erbs anymore either you just have to place yourself there and operate it remotely.

There's no specific proprietary tie in with todays software either so it will work as well in 20 years time as it does now.  It's a proper desk.

Awesome stuff.

A couple of sound guys I know have been using these and love them. They were wary of them at first (snobs) but after using them, they said they were a breeze to use and the live recording thing is fantastic.

This mixing board has given the competition quite a challenge. Nothing else seems to even come remotely close to it unless you get into the much more expensive pro systems. They have been on the market long enough now that most of the bugs are worked out. Most problems people have with them now are the same old FW card/driver issues.

Congrats on a very nice mixer!

I'm not aware of an android app,  but if you can remote desk into your laptop from your android pad then you can remote control the mixer.

Hey Karyn I just got my issue of Audio Technology mag (Australian) and they are saying in the general news section there is a new update for the mixer that allows remote control from an IPhone App now. With Q Mix up to 10 musicians can simultaneously control their Presonus StudioLive monitor (Aux sends) mixes using an IPhone or IPod touch. Pretty impressive! I know you are probably not going to do this but if you ever use that mixer in a studio situation and with Studio One there is some serious and deep control between the software and that mixer too. Good luck with it.

Specs i5-2500K 3.5 Ghz - 8 Gb RAM - Win 7 64 bit - ATI Radeon HD6900 Series - RME PCI HDSP9632 - Steinberg Midex 8 Midi interface - Faderport 8- Studio One V4 - iMac 2.5Ghz Core i5 - Sierra 10.12.6 - Focusrite Clarett thunderbolt interface

Yeah Jeff, great isn't it?

It has 10 (ten) aux outputs to use for monitor sends and the QMix app for iPhone/iPod allows each musician to control their own monitor mix from their own iPhone/iPod.  From the master laptop you can assign each persons iPhone to just their own monitor so they can't mess with anyone else's mix.

It also introduces a new concept, the "Wheel of Me".  Of all the channels you might have mixed into a single monitor, you mark the channels that are being played/sung by the monitor user and the "Wheel of Me" adjust the levels between the whole mix and the marked channels.  This is set on the iPhone app and adjusted by the musician as desired.

Way cool.

I've had mine for nearly a year now and love it.

All I wish for now is an iPad so I can do a full remote control gig without having to sit at the FOH position. Although I could do a remote control (on the iPhone using Splashtop) of a windows session running VSL. have to work on that setup and see how it works. Windows laptop -> Cat5 to wireless router <- wireless from iPhone. Should work OK.

Now all I need is some local gigs. Moved interstate 6 months ago (NSW to VIC) Everythings in storage as we are still waiting to start building new house.

Not too complicated, it's just that the iPads don't seem to be strong enough yet.  I'm hitting all the right controls but the pad just disintegrates after about 30 seconds.
