I'm done with Soundclick

Navigating around Soundclick generates too many popup ads, anybody have suggestions for a better player? Preferably somethings that links well to facebook and gives you the ability to delete whatever you upload.

I have firefox but I don't want others to get popups just because they checked out my music or the site in general

Point well taken, Tony.  I just sent their support an email complaining about the popups, and the other day some stupid site hijacked my browser (IE 7).  I told them they're gonna' loose people.  Needless to say, I haven't heard back

Ahh I see - my bad. I have a soundcloud.com page too. The plusses are that you can load wavs and other audio files of any file size instead of just mp3, so better quality - your free allowance is counted in actual minutes of play. You can also use it as a file transfer service by making upoladed files only available to certain individuals rather than public. The feedback is done in a different way, some ways better. Downsides - haven't figures out how to change the order of tunes so far, so they remain in the order you loaded them.
Haven't really used it that much to be honest, so might be something I'm missing. My experience of their customer service level is very good.

Plus, soundcloud allows you to replace songs. What does this mean? It means that if you have a song exported 2 years ago (which can work also as a copyright proof), and you decide to make a new mix of the same song, you can just replace your old track with the new and all your old statistics or comments will still be available.

    sincerely,

Why would you be mad at them?  Every time I go up now, I win something!  LOL.  I noticed that on Soundclick lately and I have pop-up blockers on.  I guess they gotta pay the bills?  I hear what you're saying, Tony.

Using a hosts file eliminates most of the ads and all of the popups on soundclick:  (I've been using it for years... it's great).

    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

    Peace,

    Ian

PS - This reminded me I needed to update my hosts file.  And voila, with the new hosts file installed, there's zero ads and zero popups at soundclick... At least for the moment till they install newer adware... But then the next hosts files should nix that.  Basically what the hosts file does is block any content from a database of adware/trojan/malware sites from being loaded.

Yea the ads with Soundclick are super annoying now.
I stick with ReverbNation and Soundcloud.
ReverbNation syncs very well with Facebook fan pages
and Soundcloud allows listeners to comment on any part of your song which is nice.

I see now Tony. Geez. How obnoxious all those video ads on SC just playing automatically. Not good.

I have noticed though when listening to music on Reverbnation that sometimes the sounds breaks up a lot.
More often than not. Anyone else notice this?

Is everyone satisfied with the sound quality from reverbnation? I like the site as well. Just wondering what you all think.

I am going to check out the cloud also.

I've never had real trouble with soundclick, but RN's admin interface is infinitely better.

yes, I've noticed that too, Tim.

and I also want to throw in my distaste for soundclick.  I have hosted songs on there until lately and now I use soundcloud and my own website.

some of the popup ads on soundclick now even are the annoying ones that won't let you close them without poping another up!  I can't stand that.  tottally disrespectful of the user of the website and I will not stand for it.

but I was ranting in the songs forum just a couple of days ago about the automatic video player playing at the same time as the music.  can't stand that either.  and you can't shut it off without closing the window.

soundclick has just simply gotten out of control on the ads.  I'm gone.  I'll probably even close my account soon.

I have had some luck with Ourstage. They take your file up to 100 MB and then compress it for you, so there is only on down conversion.

I only use Soundclick, and I started with them because it seemed most of us on the forum were using it at the time I started.  But I have noticed some irritating pop ups lately even though I have pop ups blocked.

Moving to another provider would be kind of a pain.  I've accumulated some fans on Soundclick.  Also, some have added my songs to their Soundclick radio stations.  Do I just abandon those people?  I can't see myself updating multiple providers - that would just add more work, however I see that a lot of people here do just that.

Question - If I pay for Soundclick (instead of using their free service) does it stop those irritating pop ups?

One thing I don't like about Soundclick is that you can't easily jump to any part of the song without waiting for the darn thing to stream.  Soundcloud, Reverbnation and even Myspace lets you jump to anyplace in the song by clicking.

Another thing - I was in Italy last year, and I had some people try to play my Soundclick songs and it crashed their computer - multiple times.  They just couldn't get it to run with the Soundclick player.

Soundcloud looks cool, but if you can't order the songs that's kind of a problem for me.

yes, if you pay them for their monthly fee then it eliminates the popups.

I agree with you about the irritation of the soundclick player and its limitations on moving to different parts of the song.  it is not nearly as good as other players.
