I'm going nuts... softsynth volume resets EVERY TIME!

hello everyone!

I am so confused here.   Everything was fine, I have a drum track set up using NI Battery as a softsynth for it.  The Main Volume in the NI Battery module was at 0.0 db.   I accidentally moved the volume slider for the drums in the track view, now EVERY time i start playing the song no matter at what point, the NI Battery module volume goes down to -12.6 db!!   No matter what I do, even if I move it back to 0.0 db, it automatically goes back to the -12.6 db.   I've seen this happen with Z3TA too so I dont think its a "Battery" issue.  Somehow Sonar is telling the softsynth to lower it's volume, but i can't find where!  Nothing in event list either.

Thank you in advance!
Adam

In addition i just realized that when you move the Volume slider on the track to 127, it also moves the main volume inside of Battery but ONLY up to -6db!  So here lies the problem.  Before I touched the volume slider in the track view.... the Master volume inside NI Battery was at 0, but it seems like once you touch the volume in the track view, it automatically takes over the NI Battery volume, but when you move the volume in track view to 127, the highest it goes to in NI BAttery is -6.0db but I need it at 0.  Any one know how I can do this and make the 2 volumes not control each other?
    Thank You!

Try right clicking on the midi fader in track view for the softsynth and disable the control.

    THere are a few possibilities:

1- Make sure you have the latest updates to Battery 3 - there were some fixes to this.
2- The "Volume" fader on MIDI tracks sends data out - so go into Global Options and look at the "Reset Controller" setting (it's either on or off, checked or unchecked).

The Volume fader affects ALL MIDI channels that are the same... so if you have 3 MIDI tracks feeding Battery3, adjusting any one will affect the others if they are set on the same channel to the same output source (Battery 3).

Check the Event List view and make sure you don't have a volume control at the start of the track.

Thanks for the quick replies.  I tried disabling the control for the fader, that did not work.  I am also not recording automation.  Nothing in the event list either.   :(   ba_midi - i dont see this reset controller option.... can you point me in the right direction?

THere's a global option  as well as a project option, I think it's under tools tab ( not at my daw ). Look in the Project options tab...there will be a ( reset controllers after pushing play ) or something similar.
I just went through a similar situation a few hours ago, all of a sudden I'm getting patch changes where none existed on a track. The culprit was that I removed a softsynth...and low and behold the midi track that was assigned to the removed VSTi got a new instrument assignment .....there is no logic to that assignment...so it's program changes, volume changes etc just get plugged in to that track which has a channel assigned as well  ( for example..I remove an intance of B4II.........the track that was assigned to b4II now gets a different VSTi randomly assigned)...... hmmm ...just happened to be the same VSTi that was acting all goofy. I'm using sonar5.......I hope that random re-assignment has been fixed. It can cause all sorts of headaches on tracks that aren't visible.

Unfortunately, if you remove (delete) a synth from the synth rack, Sonar does reassign all the MIDI tracks to the next available synth.   I am not sure how Sonar can avoid that, but for the moment - that 'feature' or bug, whatever it's called - is still there.

And, for Adam - yeah, it's in the Global options somewhere (I'm not at my DAW either).

BA_ midi...thanks for the heads up that this " feature !" is still present.....sorry for steering the thread off course... but simply assigning it to the default midi hardware output..makes the most sense..... this has happened to me with multiple tracks assigned to drums that have been split out. I've actually had to close the program and lose edits few times because of that nonsense.  Excuse to semi rant adam.

When it happens to me (and I realize it did happen), I just go into the tracks and re-check their assignments.  No loss of data/work, etc.

Hey guys, so here is the update.   Still not working.   I work off a template where the "Reset Controller" option is already unchecked.   I also did not delete any softsynths, i know what happened.... i moved the volume knob on the simple instrument track where I have my drums in track view.  Ever since then that volume inside battery is messed up.  That's it.  I don't know how to get Battery back to 0.0db :(

What exact version of Battery3 are you running?   Did you check for updates?   This WAS a known issue but an update for the plugin fixed that at some point.

Is it ONLY this project that has the problem?

Go into your Battery options menu and turn off the use cc#7/cc#10 for master volume and pan. Then, set the output in Battery to 0 dB. Done.

Oh, btw, did you check in the EVENT LIST for the MIDI track if there are any CC7 or CC11 ?

Turn the SIT into a normal track and look.

I tried disabling the control for the fader, that did not work.

Are you sure you got this right? Hard to imagine Battery chaging level at the start playback with MIDI Volume widget disabled if enabling it is what precipitated the problem.

You mentioned using a Simple Instrument Track; you have to split an Instrument track to get access to the MIDI Volume widget. If it's disabled, there will be parens around the value. The default is (101); if you change it and disable is at some other level, it will stay there, but it won't affect subsequent changes you make in BFD.

I have the same issue and am about to reload the x1 software. Faders zero out. In the console view they are fine and showing output, but there is none unless I click on each fader in turn...thern the sounds begin

    adamlewis7609,

I've had similar problems in the past. If all else fails and you aren't using a volume envelope or volume controller messages in the track driving Battery, try the following:

    1) open Battery and click File/Options (I'm using Battery 3)
    2) In the lower right corner of the Options window, set 'Use CC7/CC10 Data on Master Volume/Pan' to Off.
    3) Now, set the Master volume where you want it for the track, and it shouldn't move on it's own again.

    Good luck.
