I'm not sure where to post? I was given Akai MPK25(new)Cakewalk friendly?

I was given an Akai MPK25, because very, very good buddy liked it so much, hes buying bigger one! I have only Sonar LE 6, and Guitar Tracks Pro 4, which is fine for me, but does anyone know if this is gonna be worth my time trying to set up. Just getting my feet wet, but this is one hell of a controller, arpeg., note hold, MPC pads, semi-weighted-aftertouch keys, but I dont know if I can configure this thing, all kinds of info for every software(DAW), but Cakewalk, so if you know anybody who has got the2 to play well together, just please let me know! It will be worth spending the hours, that it will take, but I just want to make sure, in the end, it will work. Thank you very much. Youtube full of tutorials for mapping everything, but what I have!

Once again, sorry to offend anyone, when I find out more, I'll let ya know! Just sucks, all I have is Cakewalk software, and nowhere else to turn for answers, and it seems, I have done something to someone, and can get 0 responses, no matter, what I post, so, soory again to those I have offended!

It's my impression that the Akai MP controllers work ok with SONAR but not 100% with ACT.

    That's all I know.

Honestly, I think people have very little to say about it because your the person who needs to plug it in and use it.

Well, that and the fact that you probably haven't caught the attention of someone else who has that exact device.

You haven't asked any specific questions yet... except thgis one "does anyone know if this is gonna be worth my time trying to set up."

Plug that sucker in and use it like any other piece of gear.

The mapping should be straight forward.

    all the best,
    mike

Roger that, like I said I wont get it until Wed.-Thurs., but I have all intentions of pluggin it in and giving it hell. Ask too many specific questions, and then I would be getting...."want me to come over and play it for ya", sometimes its a no-win situation. I have already downloaded the manuals, and studying them, just was curious, thats all. When, and if I get it going, will be glad to pass on info to others, because it looks like a pretty nice piece of equipment! Just excited, and thanks for replying!

I hope you get the answers you need.

Don't be bashful about asking repeatedly and bumping your posts if need be.

FWIW, When I'm feeling the need I post in any old forum I think might be helpful... so don't feel constrained to be stuck down here in the Hardware section.

     Good luck,
    mike

OK... free gear is always pretty cool.... when you get it working right.

The way I see it: the Akai is a bit small at 25 keys to do a whole bunch of stuff..... not impossible but a bit more difficult.

Using the LE (light edition) of the DAW software also puts you at a bit of a disadvantage.  If I recall correctly, the LE version does not have all the synths and things that even the "beginner version" of Sonar.... aka: Music Creator 5 (MC5) has.

First thing I would do is spring $40 at the big box retailer and buy the box version of MC5 and you get a solid DAW with a few synths like TTS and Sound Center. With MC5 and the Akai, using soft synths and imagination, lots of things become possible.

I would not worry with trying to map one to the other..... use the Akai to record mid into the DAW, insert a synth and let it play.

When/if you do, post questions in the MC forum.

I'm sure you'll be productive using it once you learn how. I had a nanopad with the touch pads and x-y controller. It worked fairly well.

You should be able to play and record the midi keyboard into a midi track.

You should also be able to map the touch pads to your drums.

Similarly, you should be able to map the transport controls as well to start/stop/rewind your project as well.

Finally, you should be able to map the q-link knob to use for mixing levels and pans for tracks amongst other things.

Not sure if the LE version allows for ACT control, but I know it works in MC4 and probably MC5 as well.

Getting it figured out, have Guitar tracks Pro 4, which I use instead of LE, just seem to get more attention, when Sonar is seen. I have quite a few goodies(signature), and too many to list. I am disabled, hence 25 keys, and youd be surprised, what I can do now, thanks for the input. After researching, with the note hold, arpeggiator, and latch, with pitch and mod wheel, with after-touch, and semi-weighted keys......along w/ the Steven Slate EX, and headphones, he got it all for $258.00, at Musicians Friend, and is he is truly my best musician friend!
