Im so unexperienced and i need a little help connecting my keyboards.

Hey guys!

Maybe you´ll think im a caveman, hahha, but my problem is:

I use:
Sonar X1
Windows XP
Midisport 1x1
Yamaha CS1x
Roland JV-80

In 1996 i used Cakewalk and composed a few songs (.wrk), then i moved to Mac and started using some other softwares, but casually i found this songs and tried to play them, but first of all the SONAR doesn´t recognize my keyboards and even the songs cannot be listened, but you can see the channels recorded, so i tried to save them with other fromat and i could listen the info in the WMP.

So the Questions are:
1.- Why cant i get my computer and keyboards comunicated? could it be possible that now i just cant use this vintage keys with the Sonar X1? I went to the MIDI preferences and nothing.

2.- Could it be possible using my info and use new instruments to renew my songs?

3.- Should i blow my head?

Thanks!!!

    Hi there,

Please confirm that you do see MIDI tracks and that when you double-click on them, the Piano Roll opens.
In the piano roll, you should see MDI notes.
If all that is true, you have to establish the communication. MIDI is not quite like USB...

So, do you want your keyboard to play the songs, or do you want a software synthesizer (Soft Synth) to produce the sound in the computer?
Look a what the output (O) is routed to. Also look at Edit / Preferences / MIDI.
If you want your keyboard to play the MIDI note, the output has to be routed to you MIDI interface. And you keyboard has to be set up to receive MIDI.
If you want a Soft Synth to produce the sound: Insert a synthesizer (TTS, Dimensio Pro). Route the output of the MIDI tracks to the Soft Synth. Route the outputs of the Soft Synth to your audio interface.

    Good luck!

    Wilko

If you're using 64-bit Windows, you need a 64-bit driver for the Midisport. Check the M-Audio site.

how old is that midi sport thing ? you might find m-audio have dropped the drivers for it , like some other midi things they sold in the past, but if it worked previously then it shouldn't be a prob . I opted for a cakewalk midi interface instead. First thing though is to make sure the thing is actually working , piano icon next to clock.. tap a key if that works you know you getting comms if it lights up. if not, tick it in your midi prefs.
