Imitone -- wow! Best voice-to-midi I've ever seen [Oct 2015 update: might not ever see]
I can't post URLs yet... but go to youtube and search for "Imitone epic cello"... you'll see a video posted two days ago. The performance proper starts t 1:50. Pretty much speaks for itself. Pretty mindblowing The developer is doing a kickstarter campaign lasting a few more days ... google "kickstarter imitone" for more information. I'm unaffiliated btw (Tangential grumble: Gosh I can't wait until get big boy privileges to post urls.... I see why they would limit it for newcomers, to vet out spanners, but in correspondence CW acknowledges I've been a customer of several versions since the '90s )

You can covert monophonic audio to midi using Melodyne (except Melodyne Essentials), though not in real time

Get ready, it could be the next autotune although this appears to be actually musical & useful. Props for getting it backed on kickstarter.

The guy has passed his minimum kickstarter goal of $20,000, and is now around $4,000 short of the $60,000 he says he needs to make a VST version. There are around 4 days left. I've pledged $60 myself. Heave ho, y'all!

If it's real and perfected it would be VERY COOL but I must admit I am skeptical. Just to think that audio could be converted to midi notes and cc's in Real Time, as the video leads one to believe, boggles my feeble old mind... It was also interesting that there was little to no latency during the demo. I hope it's Real but I'm really struggling with it...

The funding option is quite confusing to me. Let's say I'm interested in just the software without the 3D-printed SoundSelf Charms. Everyone gets the same and only version of Imitone right ? Seems the more you pledge the later the estimated delivery date ?

Tomixornot, The 3d charms thing is only for people who choose to give $250. If you pledge less than $250 but at least $60, you get the basic version and the deluxe version. The deluxe version is delivered later than the basic version. If you pledge less than $60 but at least $25, you get the basic version. Pledging in any of the these three cases also gets you access to the beta. If in doubt, you can post a question on his kickstarter page or FB page -- he seems pretty responsive.

Yes, and this is a real good method. It works very well. In fact I am surprised at how well it does work. It's the "expressiveness" that i seem to struggle with. And imitone seems to solve this problem with ease. I have to admit that I was also skeptical about how well the demo was making it seem to track his vocal in real time. But then i thought, maybe so!! If it does track that well, it will be a great plug.

This is not spam, sir. Yes, I wrote all those posts. Why should I not? After discovering it on the VI Control forum, my mind was indeed blown, I pledged, and wanted to spread the word, both a) because I thought others might be interested (and judging from the number and substance of those responses on some of those threads, I was right) and b) if there was enough backing, all pledgers would get access to the VST version (which again, other folks besides me seem interested in). I indeed have no ties to the developer whatsoever, other than being a customer, a fact I disclose in this very thread (which you might have overlooked in your haste to judge). If you dispute that I am unaffiliated, please substantiate. Should I limit myself to one forum, i.e. this one? In terms of numbers of posts, this specific sub-forum is a relative backwater. Why not also post on Gearlsutz, KVR, and other forums I'm member of? While you are in investigation mode, you should at least be thorough and balanced about it. Look at my profile on KVR -- I've been on there for three years, with over 1,500 posts. If I were a spammer, I'd have thought they would have caught me out by now, eh? Also look at some of my specific posts on KVR re Imitone, subsequent to my initial post. When others mention similar products I haven't heard of, I ask for details, in a tone which you'd be hard-pressed to say does not convey genuine interest. I also pointed out to someone that Melodyne also does audio-to-midi conversion, albeit not in real time. This makes it pretty clear I am interested in audio-to-midi generally, and am not a sock puppet for Imitone. If I were the latter I'd be trashing competing products at every turn. Yes, I used identical wording in each post. Why not? What is the point of tweaking the language for each forum I post in? I chose the words I wished to use, and they say what I wish them to say. I'm being consistent. I have done the same when asking for help in various math forums. Would it somehow have been better to use "mind-blowing" on one forum, "awesome" on another, "groovy" on a third, etc? There is nothing fraudulent or otherwise misleading in the post. It invites people to check out something quite relevant to the forums in which it appears (I'm not peddling snake oil or miracle diet, after all) and to decide for themselves. Specifically, what is spammy about any of this? Nothing at all. You have leapt to a quite invalid conclusion. An apology would be appropriate.

Just enthusiastic fandom, eh? OK, I'll buy that, and apologize. But if you don't want to be mistaken for a spammer / astro-turfer / sockpuppet, don't copy-and-paste identical posts to multiple forums. Even well-meaning spam is still spam.

How is Jam Origin's Midi Guitar compare to this ? Midi Guitar can do polyphonic.. Can it also track voices ? and it translate volume / vibrato as well ?

Obviously he is key switching sample layers manually, but even so this is impressive. The lack of apparent latency did concern me at first, but listen to the parts with a sharp attack... I think I can hear a delay, and it is on par with Guitar-to-MIDI. The impressive part is the software filtering and stablizing, although it seems to me that is almost "off the shelf" - if you fed the mic input through autotune first, for example... Thanks for the link. I'll definitely keep a look-out for this.

Latest update from the dev https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ev ... ect_updateis basically a lot of navel-gazing pap about the creative process and how he hopes to possibly, maybe, perhaps, potentially have a new, sub 1.0 point release ready at some point, sort of soon, can't say quite when as after all we can't rush genius can we? I hereby apologise for having started this thread. Hope I'll be proven wrong. But for now I think he's a charlatan. Turns out he did cave on an earlier project after raising kickstarter funds a while back. We're all bound by caveat emptor. Nonetheless, I feel bad for any role I might have played in anyone else wasting their money on this. Sorry.

Imitone is supposed to be for voice not guitar. Would the Sonuus devices accept and track a voice as well as guitar?

I know very well what you mean! "Art is never finished, only abandoned" -- Leanardo da Vinci But at least you click a "send" button at some point, rather than uploading an explanation of why there's no song.
