Imported wav file stays busy
Good morning, All. Using Sonar 8.5PE. Imported a small (57mb) wave file to audio track. Will not stop being "busy". (Understood a large file could take up to a few minutes, but I gave this 2 hours!!!) Located the fix several weeks ago, but forgot the process. I know the reason is related to the import file timing being ever so slightly different so Sonar is confused how to perform the action. I remember the cure simply hitting a button or checking a box. GUARANTEED I will document next time!!!! Cheers KingB WinXP Intel e8500 Duocore, 3G, terabite HD

Give your cakewalk cache folder a clean out. Download sonar utilities to help you if you don't know where to find these files.

The other thing you might be referring to is "Import Broadcast Waves at their TimeStamp" (though that may not be the exact phrase). It's also under global options I think. You would want to keep that unchecheck unless you ARE working with broadcast wave files.

Hi. Global was unchecked. Deleted Picture cache. Now 8 of 17 tracks are "busy". Is my project trashed? ***Restored deleted files. Project OK. But this sure seems to be a clue. The import timing picture does not match up to the project picture. I found a post somewhere on the internet a few weeks ago that addressed this perfectly and it was so simple. By the way - thanks for the assistance. I appreciate it. Kingb

Strange. Export out the ones not working and import them in again and see what happens. Try creating a new project with one of the files that says busy. See that that creates the picture.

Hello Fitzj Did. Looks related to project time somehow. Like I say - there really is a very simple fix - just can't remember - I have a great memory but just very short.

Here's a thought. Picture cache size = 500mb Currently 134 files/150mb includes a .WOV, .WTM, WTR file for every track. Should I only be deleting .WOV when cleaning?

Have you made any more progress on this? I am having the same issue with both MP3 and WAV imports in SONAR 8.3. I've even tried 20 second WAV files to see if it makes a difference - no change. I also tried everything suggested in this thread. I do not have any issue importing the same WAV file into StudioLive.

Ok - here is what I found: Just deleting picture files works ok for some, but did not work for me. I'm just a noobie, yet I suspected that is only half of the solution. From research - it is clearly important to clean this folder periodically - no matter what. If your Audio Clips continue labeled "Busy", go to EDIT | SELECT | ALL, type ALT+ENTER, go to the Audio Files tab and click "Recompute Picture(s)". Note::: You must have your interface running (I use Presonnus Firestudio) or you will continue to get busy errors. Not sure if it helps your issue but solved mine. Good luck. King

Why would you need to have your interface running? Many times I want to work on projects (on my laptop) without having to connect my StudioLive or Firestudio. In this case, I'm working with files that were captured with the Zoom H1.

Okay, that just gave me a good clue. I changed the driver mode from ASIO to WASAPI and can now import audio.

Hi Fredley I wish I could answer your question properly, but I'm really a novice. All I can say is that Recomputing the Picture did not work until I turned on my interface. HOWEVER.... You know how software can be sometimes...for some it just involves deleting the picture files....which didn't work for me. Anyway... I hope you are up and running again. Cheers from Texas. King

fredley, Thats happend to me as well. All the times it has occurred it was because the sound card was temporarily unavailiable ( being used / locked by another app ) or, In one instance, I had lost firewire connection to my Echo Audiofire Pre8 and the way just stayed busy untill I happen to look at the rack and realized that the sound card had lost connection. When I re-cycled the sound card, the wave screen redraw was immediate! YMMV but that did it for me...

You know, thinking back ... I think I remember this issue once before and then it went away. I'll bet it got better when I turned on the StudioLive. I'll have to test this the next time I get some free time to mess around in the studio.

I guess it kind of would make sense that the Audio interface would have to be turned on. If it is not on then the dll for the audio would not be activated which in turn would result in the the Audio software not being activated, which the wave pic drawing would need as its source of data to compute the picture.
