Importing Midi

Hello all, I am new to cakewalk, as well as this forum, and I seem to be having trouble getting sound to play from midi tracks. I exported(in midi format) drums I had tabbed out with guitar pro and imported them into sonar. I can see the sound on the track as well as the drum map, but when I press play I cannot hear any sound. I have a creative blaster mpu-401 sound card if that helps determine a solution.

    Welcome to the forum.

Through what were you hoping to hear your midi played? Sonar has no native sounds - you will have to direct your midi to an outboard source, or a soundcard's synth, or through a soft synth. Which are you using?

What do you have selected in Options-MIDI Devices. The MPU401 is a MIDI interface to an external keyboard or synth. You need to select the Sound Blaster's MIDI synth instead.

Thanks for your replies. In midi devices, under outputs I am showing my Creative at the top, and microsoft Midi Mapper underneath; under inputs, I am showing just the Creative. I have the creative selected under both input/output. How do select Sound Blasters Midi Synth?
