That's a great soundscape feeling - it would fit well in a road-type film, Straight Story or some such. I'm nopt a great film-watcher, so I don't know. This has great variations and actually a lot of dynamics. The choral section could have risked blowing it, but you kept it just right. Good work jdf

This is glorious Dan. Really well done, I love how you developed and expanded on the central theme. That ending is worthy of The Last Night of The Proms, stirring stuff! Quite inspiring to hear something like this as I'm returning to my instrumental pieces.

Dan, Great song and overall performance. The only nit for me is that intro keyboard has a little too much high-end on it (a little shrill compared to rest of the soundscape). It sounds a little like that new Una Corda Keyboard from NI. The acoustic piano and rest of the instruments sound really good EQ wise. Anyway, great production. Your music is always immediately recognizable which is not always the case with instrumental pieces. Love it:) Regards

Thanks Jerry! I appreciate the comments. I really wanted the choir at the end (I dreamed about it, lol). I had to buy a choir library to do it, that's how much I wanted it. I really would've like the end to be more impactful/powerful, and I kept fiddling with the levels to get it there, but I could never find the sweet spot, so I settled... Regards, Dan

Thanks James! Glad you enjoyed the ending. Hey, instrumentals don't have to be boring, lol... When my wife heard this, she asked if this was the song I did for my Dad. She was surprised when I told her "no" and played the actual song. First thing out of her mouth was "he'd have liked this better", lol...she's a killer that one. Regards, Dan

Thanks Mark! The keyboard in the intro is three layers of two music boxes and a Guitaret. The Guitaret is very plunky sounding with a sometimes unpleasant screech sound. I liked it for this, so I kept it. Not to everyone's tastes for sure. Regards, Dan

First off, neat idea! +1 for complexity increase, just like life. Sorry, kids! And as it got more complicated with more awesome parts, your mix never got muddy or imbalanced or incoherent. Just NOT like life. So, for true realism, I suggest by the fourth or fifth matchstick, boost 300hz by about 10db with a wide q, and if your matchstick gets married, a boost up around 3-5000mhz, something sweet but shrill, ought to do the trick. Or maybe it's better the way you have it now - yeah just keep it the way it is, it's pretty darn perfect. cheers, -Tom

I did not read other comments... This piece has very dreamlike sounds that go together well...I particularly liked the section around 2:05 where the horn comes in -- nice melody and the horn sound is lovely. The end sections of the piece where there is a background sound of strings with "voices" sounded a little shlockey -- those "voice" things always get on my nerves though that's just a personal preference. Well done :) Allan ====

This is purely my own interpretation partly influenced by your described of the piece. I was thinking hmmmm at the beginning. Wasn't sure about the toy piano kind of instrument there. But yeah I guess it would fit the first stage of a life time. And there's a lullaby melody in there too. Nice.
I really liked the transition setups at 1:30 and 2:45. The horn dynamics was well done. Overall, a beautiful piece. I don't know much about all the different types of orchestral music, but this seemed a bit condensed? Bjorn

Thank you Reece! Yes, there is a delay on the piano, but I put it on a separate bus and manually rode the send so the delay did two things: 1) warmed up the low parts, and 2) accented certain higher notes and phrases. Regards, Dan

Another great one, Dan. Just all around good instrumental music with feel, depth and breadth. Ironically, with all the "big" stuff happening that I very much liked, two of my favorite parts were the short horn solo and the little percussion accents that followed. Dynamics.

Thanks Lasse! Actually, no. To be honest, since I've built up my sample libraries over the last couple of years, I hardly even turn it on anymore. There are some cool vintage sounds in it that I still like, but I haven't needed them recently. Other than those, I have better pianos, strings and more available elsewhere. However, if I'm in a hurry, I will still use it to sketch out an idea... Regards, Dan

stevec Another great one, Dan. Just all around good instrumental music with feel, depth and breadth. Ironically, with all the "big" stuff happening that I very much liked, two of my favorite parts were the short horn solo and the little percussion accents that followed. Dynamics.
Thank you Steve! It's funny, I (thought) I was finalizing the mix when it occurred to me that the section where the percussion is was missing something. That's when I actually added the percussion and the bass parts. Turned off the FX, loaded up Kontakt and Play and went to town. Took a couple of hours, but I was surprised at how smoothly the process went. Regards, Dan
