In all of Platinum I can't find a decent VIBES patch!
I just want some nice sounding VIBES. Anyone know where one is or how to create one?

This is SonicCouture's explanation of why you can't find a decent vibe patch: "Instruments that use global modulation (the Hammond C3/leslie is a similar example) are difficult to sample & model realistically, because if you record a single note with the tremolo active, it will be out of sync with all subsequent notes you record. Previous attempts to sample the vibraphone usually recorded the instrument with the motor/tremolo switched off, then faked the effect using filters and LFO. Soniccouture Vibraphone takes a completely new approach - by sampling the entire instrument twice. Once with the fans closed, once with them fully open, both times completely static - the motor switched off. Once we have the full vibraphone sound sampled in both states - fans closed and fans open - we can then simply crossfade between them in Kontakt using a simple sinusoidal LFO. This gives not only the authentic sound, but also full control over the speed of the tremolo, another essential element of the instrument." You can check it here if you're interested.

If you have the Digital Sound Factory Proteus 2000 pack for Dimension, in the Percussion section there are the Soft Vibes and VeloVibes patches that are pretty good. I can't remember if that's included or I bought it or was a give-away at some point. I think it's a very modestly priced pack if you don't have it. I'm pretty sure it's available through the CW store.

Proteus pack is extra $. I've gotten some pretty good fake vibes with ZT3A using couple sine waves, envelope and little lfo. Don't know how close you need it. If you want to get really fancy try playing with the FM stuff.

Thanks for the responses people. I do understand the reasons it is difficult to sample. I will check out that Soniccouture Vibraphone thing (from Vibes-Geek) and see if I have those Dimension Pro samples, Tom. Thanks guys

The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better. Soniccouture Vibraphone currently $119, looks nice though.

Yeah, the SF pack for DimPro is much more economical ($19.95). But SonicCouture's stuff is hard to beat if you want the full on version and are willing to pay for it. You should get on their mailing list anyway. They do have some very nice promos and sales from time to time that you might want to check out.

Those orangetree samples are really nice, Mario! Thanks for that tip, too bad I don't have the full Kontakt, yet. (I do have Player 8 but it won't work). Long ago when I had an Ensoniq EPS, the 40mb vibes were my favorite and I've wondered if DSF has "migrated" them into their various collections. Come to think of it, I have the DSF Ensoniq collection. I'll have to check for it there. Michael

Actually, I use the AAS Chromaphone. Great sound plus very tweak-able.

Sometimes TTS-1 can work when the instrument is not soloed or up in the mix. Although all the other for fee solutions probably sound better.
