Including Images In Post???

I've seen this question asked from time to time but don't recall seeing an answer.  Can we load images into a post?  Or is the only option to post the image elsewhere and insert a link?  If we use the link option (the picture button to the left of the smiley face in the tool bar), does that import the image to the forum or does the image always get retrieved from the link?

Also, some images seem to come up as thumbnails which, when clicked, expand.  Other images appear fully sized.  What's happening in this case?

Thanks in advance for teaching me this basic skill.

yep, use a link, the pic is hosted elsewhere, either in ur own place (say with photobucket or ur own ftp) or use an existing weblink ( in firefox, right-click on pic and choose copy image location), post in the [ img ] link, should end in .jpg or .gif...

some forums will resize the post.

some photo hosts allow you to post the thumbnail to a bigger image. say if it's silly size big

photo bucket even provides the code you need to use to insert the pic into your post

heres one I did before... all images are on photobucket

Dave - if you use the INSERT IMAGE icon then it brings up a window for you to paste a URL for a picture that is hosted on another server (like photobucket).  if you use the ATTACH FILE button at the bottom of the reply, then it will allow you to upload a photo to cakewalk forum server and it will resize it into a thumbnail, if you click on that thumbnail link it will open it in a full size.

example - this is where I have used the IMAGE icon to paste a url:

and here is an example of the same image that I used the "You may attach file(s) to this message" button at the bottom:

EDIT:  the attach file button is only available in the FULL REPLY, not the quick reply

also to say, I think that the attach file is only available in the coffee house, IIRC it's not in the other forums.

Dave, the new forum software allows a lot of images to be simply copied and then pasted (Ctr+V) directly into a post.

This image was a direct Copy & Paste (no intermediate Image-Hosting site required) from here: http://unitedfamiliesinternational.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/globe-africa-countries.jpg

You can also drag other images in directly...

    Such as forum avatars:

Or even the 'thread' smileys above the reply window:

Dave, the new forum software allows a lot of images to be simply copied and then pasted (Ctr+V) directly into a post.

Cool!  I was hoping for an easy (no-third-party) way to do this.  Thanks.

Ahhh... maybe we can't all do it

    I'm on: Vista SP2 32bit & Windows Explorer 7 here.

For whatever it's worth, I've been experimenting trying all kinds of ways to do this ... no joy!  I run XP SP3 on both my home and office machines.  At the office: IE6;  at home: IE8.  In either case, all attempts (by various means ... copy/paste, attach file, etc.) result in failure to get an image inserted in the post.  So, anyway, it does not appear to be an IE version issue.

Too bad!  This would be a useful thing to have.  I've got access to a web site with lot's of free space, but it's a PITA to put an image there and include the link in a post.
