Clint, can I ask you what your guitar set up is - what guitar you are using. It sounds like a strat. Are you using an amp, if so what kind - or some kind of software to get your sound. I really like the sound on this one.

Hi Clint. That guitar tone is tops. The mix is very clean and present. You have a winner here.

Yep, It's a Strat! I'm using Amplitube CS with a Fender Deluxe Reverb. This is an FX chain in pro-channel with Valhalla Ubermod and VintageVerb. Next is the CA-2A, EQ, Tape Sim and N-type Console Emulation. I'm glad you like it. I'm pretty happy with the clean tones I'm getting, but I'm still working on the distorted stuff.

Clint, thanks. That is a lot of stuff I don't have. I've got a couple of really nice strats, unfortunately the house I live in has dirty electricity and all of my single-coil pick-up guitars all record with a lot of background noise - not really able to record with any of them. I guess I need to upgrade Sonar too - I'm still using Sonar 3.1 - so I'm missing a lot of tools. Thanks again. I do love your playing and your tone.

Thanks for the compliment. I have amps too, but I record in my house and my wife doesn't like to hear me play the same song 100 times! Hahaha. I'll tell you though, X3 is pretty awesome and I know it's subjective, but Amplitube is my favorite amp sim. Oh and It's very nice to not have to fight the noise of the single coils. I have a Seymour Duncan hotrails in the bridge.

So, Clint - you're not using the Deluxe Reverb as part of the chain - I'm I understanding that right? I record using a POD XT-Live. I've got a Mesa Boogie Mark IV - which is really nice - but - you know, the wife . . .

Yeah I am, You can insert a FX chain module into the Pro-channel and put whatever you want in there. The actual FX chain is...The Deluxe reverb, Valhalla ubermod and vintageverb. It just saves time. The Pro-channel is basically an FX bin (with the pro-channel modules of your choice). Say you have plugins you always use with a vocal track. Create an FX chain with your vocal plugins. Then inside Pro-channel open up the FX chain module. Now you can drag and drop that chain into the FX chain module. You can also drag and drop in the FX bin if you would rather. I like to use the Pro-channel so I can alter the single chain easier with the order of the Pro-channel modules. Does that make since or am I making it sound difficult? It's really pretty cool. If I knew how to do it I would post a pic of the screen. I don't think I'm explaining it very good.

Well, you're doing a lot of things I'm not familiar with. I'm asking these questions because we're trying to move into town right now - so I'm hoping to be able to start recording with my strats. I'm going to upgrade my system next year and I'm just starting to try to familiarize myself with some of the new things going on - I haven't upgraded in 10 years - so it's time. I'm not familiar with Pro Channel - so - it's a bit confusing. So, I'm going to have to do a bit of studying. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

This is wonderfully open and grooved out. Great playing, and a perfect mix. Nice addition to a post trick or treating evening (with cocktails).

No way! When did they add that in there? I never knew you could drop standard FX chains into the Pro Channel. That's kewl. :) I've just been using both and was never quite sure about the order, although I assumed the Pro Channel was always last. Thanks for the tip Clint!

The Pro-channel is always before the fx bin unless you click the little post button in track view.

I should have said track inspector instead of track view. Also you don't have to insert a FX chain module. Just drag and drop the effect chain and Sonar will insert that for you! My errors are because I have made Pro-channel presets of my guitar settings so all of my favorite PC modules open up too. Of course each song has it's tweaks, but it still saves a lot of time. Sonar is a lot of fun!
