Incredibly stupid question about soundcloud

Ok,I uploaded,an unfortunately compressed finished master to soundcloud, http://soundcloud.com/rks26 where it was insanely compressed[again I should have realised!],this is after X1 refused to upload after about 50 tries[thanks dell!-luckily my desktop in the literally freezing part of the house worked...] Anyway the private thing has totally confused me,if my track is marked private does that mean NO ONE can listen to it?[except myself!}and if I want to let people listen to it the only option to change it is to then put peoples Email,this is odd,why the F can't I just change it?

I'm sorry this isn't a Sonar Question but its 1.00 am and I'm really burn't.

All of my files are public, chances are if you don't know me, you'll never hear them...they are essentially private because its a big world after all.

Compression is relative...soundcloud is probably going to play through a set of headphones or cheap computer speakers...which is a mechanical form of compression anyway.

Hey,it don't matter,you answered my question succintly,as there's so much incredibly simple[once you know] that totally eludes me,maybe its being an old 47,and never using a computer till my join date.

Better still, hold down the Alt key before pressing PrintScreen.  This captures the active window rather than the entire screen.

How does soundcloud work and has it been a success for many?

RE: exporting the proper length...I routinely place "Start" and "End" markers at the points where I'd otherwise have to trim the final export, press CTL-A to select all tracks, jump to the "Start" marker and press F9, jump to the "End" marker and press F10. Now the export will start and end exactly where I've told it to, and will do so consistently every time. Lead-in silence or count-ins are removed, and it doesn't matter where SONAR "thinks" the song ends.

What's the big attraction with Sound Cloud ?? I've been using SondClick for years and it's free, You can even charge for your downloads....so I don't see the benefits of Sound Cloud...please explain...is it just hype ??

Thanks Bitflipper for the inforamtion....I've found that music can sound pretty darn good at 128 bit mp3's off of SoundClick. I've had a free account there for years and it has always worked good for me. So I'll probably stick with it. Here's a quick sound sample I recently posted on SoundClick and you can hear how good it sounds...good enough for me anyway....

Iv'e been attempting to upload the first thing I've ever done[since using a daw/X1] to soundcloud SIMPLY as IT'S PART of X1 PRODUCER[well the Expanded X1 "D" update anyway...I think],i.e. when your old and a newb[with computer things] the ability to export directly to soundcloud,seemed like a good thing.

However,the song I ended up with was one of about 8[semi complete[?] instrumentals,that was actually just a scratch track[of 1 riff idea] done with Guitar Rig,as an idea for another song when,I tried plugging in a Behringer dynamic 58 copy to my laptops 1/8" line in,and just blurted out the vocal that's there,and then I thought,bugger it,I really should re-do this with REAL amps,actually have a Bass in the mix[there is none],but instead,I kept the"cheap sounds",and tried to polish a...... if you will,instead of RE RECORDING it properly!

Well it's becoming too long a rant,but the dell xps laptop would NOT upload on Export,but going to utilities,and doing it that way,from Explorer eventually worked.....

Another forum member who said "Sir,I am concerned about you"[as in referring to my mental health...no doubt]also had files on soundCLICK,and the quality,of those were also way better than mine[audio quality]so I certainly rushed it,but after not releasing ANYthing since 92[and even then the record co. did zilch]I have been keen,but it's one thing to play guitar,and have people say you can kind of play,it's quite another to record/mix/master/export multiple tracks-to a stereo file,to this thing called soundcloud,that seems to radically alter what you "uploaded",all after not knowing what "copy/paste" meant 15 months ago.

I maybe wrong[surprise]but Soundclick possibly seems,like it doesn't change the tone of the original file as much as cloud?.....I wonder.
