Independent music video production forum

Hmmm . . . I suspect this will be rushed to the off topic forum or just plain deleted but I can't think of anywhere else to post this! As a registered Sonar user I feel it's my duty to let you guys know about a low-to-no budget, indie music VIDEO production forum that has just opened it's doors at www.ndividz.com

OK, so I know the Cakewalk forums are to discuss audio related matters but I figure some of you may also have created videos for your music. Those that have, or are thinking of doing so, will hopefully find something of interest at the forum, including the facility to post links to your videos so that your peers can critique them, a forum for discussing technique and technicalities, a growing resource database and a talent finding forum where you can match your skills and requirements with others.

It's early days yet and it's going to live or die depending on participation. If you're interested in the world of indie music videos, please take a look - if you like what you see, join in, it's free.

Thanks guys. And thanks in advance to the moderators for maybe putting this post where it should be, if it shouldn't, in fact, be here! Alternatively, leavig it where it is would be cool!

Fingers crossed.

Your post is not too far off topic. In fact, I do a bit of video stuff myself (mostly using Sony Vegas 6). I'd been complaining frequently (with other users) about a few missing features in Sonar that pertain to video work. Sonar 6 actually ANSWERED several of those complaints -- even going above and beyond expectations. So I'd say that Cakewalk is definitely interested in the sound/music-for-film/video market & users. Thanks for the info.

I started a Sony Vegas users group here in the Research Triangle Park (North Carolina). So this is a topic I care about personally.

    Hey Mike,

Well, hopefully CW will feel the same way! I'm a Vegas user too (just gone up to v7 - not doing HD but there were a few new features I welcomed - and the u/g price from 5 to 7 was too good to ignore!!). And in RTP, huh? Know it quite well. I used to work for a s/w company in the UK and I set up an office in Columbus, OH. One of our first major clients was Quintiles at RTP and I used to haul my ass over there eight or nine times a year. Nice part of the world. Got friends in Chapel Hill too.

Anyhoo, hope to see you at the NDIVIDZ forum, Mike. As I mentioned, it's not content rich yet and these things take time but I have a feeling it could be a very useful (and used) resource over time. Be nice to get CW involved in some way.

    Cheers.

Oh well this is just GREAT!

    From my hosting provider:

"We are suffering from a severe outage due to a problem at our bandwidth provider . . . " whatever that means.

My sincere apologies to anyone who has tried to access www.ndividz.com and been unable to. I hope you'll be patient and maybe try again a little later?

    Sorry again.

OK, site's up again. Sorry once more to anyone who tried to access it but couldn't. If the site becomes a success then I will move it to a more robust hosting provider than HostOnce.com.

Hope to see you at www.ndividz.com

FINALLY seems to be up again 2006/11/29 19:13:09 (permalink)
After much heartache, www.ndividz.com appears to be fully functional again. At 23.38pm tonight - around 16 hours after I first realised the site was down (along with my other two websites) I finally got a response from my hosting company (HostOnce - HINT). It was a bit non-committal :

    "Dear Ian
We have had some DNS issues today but these have been resolved and I have no problems viewing your site or navigating it".

SOME DNS ISSUES!!!!! Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear . . . no apology. Nothing.

Oh well, onwards and upwards. The site seems to be OK and if you would give it another chance I would love for you to take a look and join in.

Many thanks for your patience and again my apologies for wasting anyone's time.

Great, Ian--I'm coming in after the whole server-down problem. Stuff Happens. I think this is On Topic--I've been wanting to get into working with some visuals to go with my music. I have Adobe Premiere--um, kind of need a camera. But--going to your site will probably help me get stoked up and ready to take the plunge. Thanks.

    Randy,
After hearing what you do with sound, I can only imagine what you would do with light. Even relatively inexpensive digital cameras hav a remarkably good picture. Go for it.
    Ian,
I really gotta ditch the dialup. I'm missing out on too many cool sites.
    Ken K,
Hey neighbor, how you likin' our little snowstorm? I can hardly wait 'til we get a real one. Two hours from Thornton to Brighton! Rediculous.

Randy, just taken a listen to your demos up at Soundclick. Very impressed. Not often I get to hear the Pinafore overture these days! My late grandfather was a very keen G&S fan and ran a successful amateur theatre group specialising in G&S in London. Some years later I won an award for playing the Pirate King in Pirates. G&S goes way back in my family!

As RobertB says, you can get remarkably good results with remarkably inexpensive cameras. And the software you'd need to edit is also relatively modestly priced. It's the ideas that costs the most! Not wishing to shamelessly plug the NDIVIDZ board but there is a section for artistes seeking artistes to work with. Obviously on such a new board there ain't a lot going on yet, but you may find someone in your neighborhood who would like to work with you on a video.

Hope to see you on the forum!

    Cheers,

Bob, enjoyed 'Fishing . . .', especially the strings (?) or pad sound just sitting quietly behind the guitar. I also call my toys 'the band'. I haven't played in a real peopled-up band since 1985! I do try and get a real band sound wherever possible, esp with the drums. Although it's the polar opposite of the material you guys are creating and therefore may not be to your taste, feel free to take a butchers (as we quaintly say over here) at http://www.ianstark.com/songwriter.html. There are a couple of examples of my stuff there, recorded over the last five years.

Yep, gotta lose that ole dial-up, Bob!

    Cheers,

Nice and noisy, huh?! Thanks for your kind words James. 'Success' started out as a bit of fun and got dirty as it grew; the others started out dirty!

    Cheers!

Quick update on www.ndividz.com , if I may.

We now have around 30 members (with over 100 friends at myspace.com/ndividz), over 100 articles in about 40 topics, including around 14 very cool music videos. Now that we have a nice little community going, I hope that things will start to gain momentum.

If you have a chance, please do take a look (and register, if you want to post any comments on the videos there. Registration and use of the site is completely free) - and if you have a video of your own, please post a link to it in the Showcase forum (also free, of course!).

    All the best!
