Thanks Carl,

After watching the video I had to snatch it for $46. It is a quick 1GB download.

This should make for a very quick way of putting a scratch track together on the laptop.

Purrrfect Audio DAW here.  Wow!...

Same here.
I'm also curious to find out how this will sit in a mix & used along with 'real' guitars for doubling.

I use his Solid State Symphony for creating projects all the time too.
It's one of my favorite vi's for writing.

I like the older Acoustic Guitar Collection with Strummaker III. Nice and simple. I mostly use the manual Strum Maker Live function however as I think its easier to get a real groove going that way compaired to the step-sequencer type of function.

I wonder if there is a "live" function in StrumMaker IV

Don't suppose there's a version of just Strum Maker IV that works with the older Acoustic Guitar Collection is there??

I don't know but I'd email him.
Maybe he'd consider it if asked or if enough were interested in it.

Having fun & it will come in handy for certain projects. For kicks I quickly tried each of Waves artist series guitar plugins with it along with FF MB Steel string preset. With some minor tweaking I got some nice results.

Well, this post clued me into the fact that the song I'm working on could sure use some acoustic strumming.

Soooooo I pulls up Strum Maker III and low and behold it did what I wanted in nothing flat.

Well for $46 clams I decided to go for it. The interface looks better and it looks to be better scripting than SM III.

I'll give her a whirl tomorrow on the tracks I created today to see if I like the sound mo betterer.

Re: Indiginus | StrumMaker IV Acoustic 2013/10/20 02:36:59 (permalink)
I check out the PDF manual. On the face of it it looks like a significant improvment.
The  "strummaker live" type functions are still there on the green and blue zones of the keyboard, so you can manually trigger your up and down strokes. What looks like a big step forward is the chord variations on the black zone.

Key Switches
BLACK
Low octave (C0-B0) These key switches remotely control the Variation Knob, so you can
change from a major to a minor or diminished or whatever, so you have instant access to any
of 144 chords at any moment in your sequence.
C 0 = Major
C# 0 = Minor
D 0 = 7th
D# 0 = Minor 7th
E 0 = Major 7th
F 0 = Diminished
F# 0 =Augmented
G 0 = Sus 4
G# 0 = Bar
A 0 = Power Chord 1
A# 0 = Power Chord 2
B 0 = User Chord (actually, all chords in SM4 can be customized)
BLACK
High octave (C4-B4) These key switches control the Capo, or transpose function.
Just hit these keys and watch the capo move up the neck!

This overcomes a big limitation in Strummaker III were only 12 chords could be specified. Its a different approch to the chord detection methods used by Musiclab and Orange Tree but probably easire if you are not a keyboard player with a good knowledge of chord fingering.

It would be nice if Strummaker 4 could be used with ACC and Torch.

It looks like Strummaker 4 will be availble for ACC and Torch, but not just yet.

How do you guys go about keeping & saving user sequences per song?

If I save my own to any of the 12 seq. slots will they overwrite the default ones already there or only for that instance in Kontakt used in the project?

I was able to save some user assigned chord changes by doing a save-as in kontakt 5 and saving it as a different instrument. I have not tried to change the patterns yet but I am hoping that same process would work that way also. I did struggle with coming up with a detailed naming convention though...

I did save a Sonar project with the user chords changed and it opened back up with the changes intact so that might also be a temporary solution.

From the sound of that KVR post and the info that I got from Indiginus in reply to my email it looks like that SM IV will be available "sometime in the future" in "some form" for "some amount" to previous ACG and Torch owners. Soooooo....$46 semolians is looking cheaper and "sooner" by the minute. Lemme hear some more reviews, will ya??

Re: Indiginus | StrumMaker IV Acoustic 2013/10/20 12:27:56 (permalink)
Well, while not a review, I can tell you that I am already wishing there were many more user chord slots available than the 12 allotted.  I can kinda get around this by having multiple instances of SM-4 in the Kontakt rack and changing the midi channel for each.

The thing I am really enjoying is how easy it is to voice your user chords and you can select which/how many of the six strings will be played in that chord just by clicking a button on/off for each string located at the nut.

There is also a button below the fretboard you can click that will show all of the notes names on the fretboard which makes it real easy to select which notes to include in your user chord voicing. Also one for midi note numbers but I have not yet found that as useful.

The guitar samples themselves sound pretty darn good without any EQ or effects applied although I only spent a couple of hours playing with it using AKG 240S headphones. The really cool thing is that I did it on a laptop using the mouse clicking on the keyboard within Kontakt, No external keyboard was required...

While subjective, So far I feel like I will definitely get my money back from the investment and Tracey has been very good to deal with and keeping things updated.

So have you placed your order yet?

Just tried it, the instrument maintains the sequences as well. I'm saving the instrument separately per song & into the project folder.
I noticed you can assign the mod wheel ( learn midi cc) to a note on the fretboard to turn it on/ off.
Also using the non ks white keys on/off rather quickly & at random (C5+up) slightly interrupts & chokes the pattern so you can subtly break up the strum randomness a bit that way too.

Now I need a find way to ks through the orb to select sequences, latch & note values.

Re: Indiginus | StrumMaker IV Acoustic 2013/10/20 15:25:28 (permalink)
OK...got it.  Tried it.  Like it.  MUCH BETTER.  Yummy.

HOWEVER...

Here's what I'd like to see.  One octave of those extra (unused?) notes of the visible keyboard at the top be assigned to the twelve different sequence patterns so you could just insert the correct note to change the strum pattern whenever you needed it.  I haven't figured out the "chain" thingy yet so that might help.  But I still say it would be waaay better to have assignable notes.

Now, my only gripe so far:  If you inadvertently hit any note on your controller that's in the lower or upper "extra chord" octaves...all hell breaks loose in whatever you're doing and it's not intuitive how to get back to where you were or which note needs to be pressed (or re-pressed) to get you back to square one.

Perhaps one day soon I shall read the manual:-)

I received email back from Tracy yesterday saying he might consider my feature suggestion for using ks for seq patters, latch & note values.

If you can please email him & ask for these too (esp. the ability to ks or change pattern seq)
It's a feature that's really needed.
