Info about slices?

So I was messing around trying to learn how to use the loop construction view, and there are various slicing options/actions available.  I went to the online help to try to figure out exactly how all that stuff was used in a loop, and found out there is nothing there about what slices are or what they do!  I went to the Help index and it turned out there is no entry for "Slices, slicing", which I was hoping might be there.  Then I searched the index and the best I found was just one reference within the Cyclone synth section, and it didn't really help.

Does anyone know where I get info about what slices do and how they behave, especially in LoopConVu?  Or am I assuming too much, thinking this kind of description even exists?  Or is it somehow right in front of me and I don't see it (it wouldn't be the first time that's happened)?

Look for Loop Construction View in the Help index instead of Slicing. You'll find some subtopics there that you can click on. Scott -- Scott R. Sorry, I wasn't clear - I had already read everything there was to read about them in the Loop Construction View section of the help.  I can't find where it actually comes out and says what the slices are for or what they do.  They are just described as "markers".  Is that all they are?  I'm not sure why, but I thought there was more to them.  Maybe I'm getting them confused with some kind of other "slices" in other software.

Those are not slices. What they are are tempo/beat markers. Sonar does not slice anything that is a REX thing.

You use the markers to show where the transients are in a loop. This is how Sonar knows what to stretch or shrink based on their location.

The slices are the sections between the transients. Once "sliced" you can use the pan, gain, and pitch envelopes to change the loop. Note that they aren't permanent though, just used by the loop construction view.

No wavefiles were hurt in the making of this loop.
