In-line MIDI Monitor?

I'm looking for some type of "in-line" LED type of thingy to diagnose whether midi is passing through the midi cable.  Google searches led me to quite a few DIY projects of this sort, but nothing I can just order and be done with it.  There are all kinds of free programs I know (and even Sonar has the monitor in the tray), but I have a need to monitor the cable directly.

Don't laugh, but I remember some kinda "Midi Spider" toy looking thing that you plugged into a midi output and the eyes would supposedly light up with data throughput.

Thanks Y'all!!

I have a MIDI SOLUTIONS T8 that indicates when MIDI traffic is present on a port. My TC Electronics M2000 goes as far as monitoring all 16 channels simultaneously and separately; The Cakewalk UM-G1 has a MIDI monitor light built right into it...

    Just a few...
