Input Meter Of Sound Wrong

Okay .. Good-day everyone, I Have a Dell Inspiron N4010 Laptop, with an ASIO Sound Card ..

within the last year i;ve been into music producing, so my main programs used are FL Studio & Sonar X1 / Sonar 8

Trying to Record tonight, i've connected my Behringer Xenyx 1024, to my laptop using both ports ( input and output ) however when I go into Sonar to try recording, when i Arm the audio tracks to record, there is an feed being picked up by the input monitor bars showing voice input, i tried moving out the room to record, amongst  other things, but nothing works, when i actually record, and stop my recording, all that happens when i playback is static .. Anyone know how or why this is happening ?

Anticipating a speedy reply .. Tevaughn

How are you connecting the 1024 to the computer, USB?

The Behringer comes with a little box with 2x RCA in /out jacks and a USB connector to the computer. right? Mine did. The drivers are very bad. It just won't work,
And If I remember correctly you cannot have the in and out connected or you'll get a feedback loop, there's no way to stop it because it's a pure turd.
You need a proper audio interface, the Behringer I'm afraid is not one.

Buy a proper audio interface. That's what I did. I gave the little box to my brother who uses it to transfer his giant cassette collection in to audacity. Worked fine for that. Just hated any DAW's

Try the ASIO4All drivers, might give you decent results -- certainly can't hurt.

Also, your onboard soundcard - with the above drivers (if you don't need mic preamps).

Before you buy anything else go to the Behringer web site and download the latest drivers. I used a Xenyx mixer for a couple of years and it worked fine with the included USB interface, you just need to make sure the drivers are up to date.

That being said, the Xenyx mixers are a good bang for the buck and the mic pres are ok but the unit will add a bit of "coloration" to whatever you record. Not a problem if you like the sound of it but just something you should be aware of.

That would be my approach.

Tevaughn, I wouldn't connect it via a patch cord to your on board sound chip. Use the USB connection and set it up in X1.

Come on , we're talking about a $30 audio interface here boys.? Seriously a waste of time.

It's been 5 years but I bought the Xenyx mixer cause I was stupid eneough to see "USB" on the box and believe it.  I used the latest "drivers" and I even tried ASIO4all, and it did not work with Sonar or Wave Lab. It seems to work  fine  with Audacity and for playing tunes with Win amp or WMP. But there was still static in the background.
They are simply cheap converters and bad drivers,

My Xenyx mixer was great while it lasted ( 5 years) it's  now toast. slowly some of the faders started glitching out, Now the Right master fader is gone. I have Yamaha gear that is +25 years old and still going, not impressed with short lived gear like this. Next one will be a Yamaha or A&H. Looking into 3 channel Powered Speakers to eliminate needing a mixer for live gigs. I'm not about to take the 01V on the road again.

Thanks Guys, i already have the ASIO4all Driver installed, and been trying all sorta ways to get it to work without the feedback, but as Johnny said, it could just be because of the quality for the price, the left side of my faders on the mixer itself it curently glitching, so im thinking of probably just getting another Interface and upgrading my Laptop as well to Probably a MAC Of some sort.
