Inserting an Audio effect in FX bin from Recently Used Plugin List not working
I notice recently that when I try to insert an audio effect in the FX bin from the recently used list nothing happens. Inserting the effect in the normal way is fine. The recently used list seems to have the correct content (the 5 most recent effects that I have used). I am clicking on the + in the FX bin, then selecting "Insert Audio FX...", then selecting one of the listed effects in the Recently Used list at the top. Is this a known bug or a setting somewhere that I have missed? It was definitely working before but I can't recall when it stopped working.

Thanks Hidden_Symmetry, I hadn't realised it was only a problem for certain effects. Just tried the ones in my current list and can summarise as follows: Not working: Sonitus Compressor, Little Microshift (SoundToys) Working: IMPusher (Waves), SUBSPACE (Zynaptiq), Crystalizer (SoundToys)

I use that feature often. (If the project contains one instance of Zebra, there's a high probability that it'll get another.) I don't have the SoundToys plugin, but I just tried it with the Sonitus compressor and it worked OK. I usually invoke the popup menu with a right-click on the fx bin, but tried it from the "+" button as well. Both ways worked.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Thanks bit. It's on Sonitus Compressor where I notice the issue most as I use it on everything. I just tried right clicking instead of left click on + and that also makes no difference for me. Can't seem to embed an animated gif here but anyway you can see it here: https://imgur.com/a/fFfiHUC In the gif I first try to use the shortcut list (no joy) and then insert the effect in the normal way (OK).

Also insert assistant with waves plugins does not work either. Lets say if I go to an audio track and click on sends, then insert assistant, and I choose the wave HP delay for example. the bus is created but the effects chosen is not. I have to go and initiate the Wave HP delay manually into the effects bin of the assigned bus. glenville

You need to upload it to an external site, click the insert/edit image button here, and enter the URL of your image (that's the URL of the image itself - not the page you uploaded it to). I use my own server, but most users here use imgur.com

Strange, that's what I tried but it showed a broken image link on the preview. Normally works on images but I wondered if the procedure was different for animated gifs?

Q: is it the Sonitus compressor specifically, or is it always whatever happens to be first in the list?

I just tried it and with IMPusher or Crystalizer first on the shortcut list they worked fine. Incidentally, this pushed Sonitus Comp to 3rd on the list and it still wouldn't insert from the shortcut list.

If you are familiar with regedit, the recent plug-ins are stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\Cakewalk\Core\Recently Used Plug-ins While I have not been able to reproduce the problem, it may be a corrupted entry in this area.

Thanks for your help scook. I'm just looking there now and although they are stored as CLsids rather than names I notice that each of them has an index value. Each item in order in the registry has index values 2, 1, 3, 4 and 0. I'm just checking to see if the CLSids match the ones in the list and note that Sonitus Compressor does match. The VSTs don't seem to have a CLSid when I look at the Plugin Manager but have a VST ID instead which is a different format. The plugins currently in the list in CbB and working apart from Sonitus Compressor: Position 1 - Subspace (CLSid = TBD) Position 2 - IMPusher (CLSid = TBD) Position 3 - Crystalizer (CLSid = TBD) Position 4 - Amplitube 4 (CLSid = TBD) Position 5 - Sonitus Compressor (CLSid = C54E2D60-F9CA-11D2-8C30-00805FE9FC03) One thing that does occur is that Sonitus is the only DX plugin on this list although Little Microshift is also not working on the shortcut list and I doubt that is DX.

The plug-in format should not matter. As I mentioned above, I could not replicate the problem. I tried with the Sonitus Compressor and Little Microshift. I am sure you figured out the index is the current position in the recently used display. Deleting all the entries resets the list. Deleting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\Cakewalk\Core\Recently Used Plug-ins disables the feature.
