Install Lexicon MX300 VST's in Win 7

I just got a Lexicon MX300, which includes VST plug ins and it is supposed to work with Sonar.   However, the install disc supplied is not Windows 7 64 bit compatible.  The MX-Edit version is 2.1 and the driver is not Win 7 compatible.  However, they have a later version that is Win 7 compatible and installs without problems.   But, the VST plug ins on the supplied disc won't install.  When I select to only install the VST plug ins and not the MX Edit it still wants to install the incompatible drivers and stops the install.

How do I get the VST plug in, installed?  It appears to only be one .dll

    From the Lexicon website:
"The VST plug-in provides remote control over the parameters of the MX-300 host unit via USB and does not carry any audio to or from the unit."

So... the VST plugin just provides a software GUI (no audio streaming to/from the unit via USB).
IOW, You can achieve the same things using the unit's (hardware) controls.

The MX Edit program, which works as a standalone, allows software control over all the programs and parameters.  The VST, I assume, allows the same thing within Sonar.

The manual states for Cakewalk (Sonar) users we have to set up a send and return path in order to use the MX300.  I guess I could do that and use the standalone MX Edit program if I can't get the VST installed.

I tried installing the Lex supplied CD software in XP compatibility mode and it was still a no go with the driver.  Fortunately, as noted their later version MX Edit program is Win 7 compatible and installed the needed USB driver.

Update.  Worked with Lexicon support yesterday and the VST is installing and working OK in their Sonar 8.5 Pro and Win 7 64 bit.  The support had me reinstall the Lexicon MX Edit and VST plugins.  The plugins install in the Program Files(X86)\Cakewalk\VSTPlugins\Lexicon   just like other VST plug ins but Sonar 64 bit is not picking them up.  I have the path set in the global VST path but it still refuses to see it.   HOWEVER,  I still have my old Vista 32 bit/Sonar 8.5 32 bit installation (on a separate hard drive) and the Lexicon VST installs correctly and Sonar sees it in the 32 bit install.

This suggests the bit bridge is not working correctly in Sonar 64 bit (my guess).  But how do I get it working if that is the case?

    Any suggestions?

New update.  The MX300 is "history".  I'm returning it to Musicians Friend.  I don't want or need equipment that must be jury rigged to make it work and also it is only an external effects unit, it's not really a VST plug in.  If it would also process the audio via the USB I/O I may have kept it and made a "workaround".

Probably a good move. I tried one a while back but ended up using it in the effects rack of my bands P.A.  Better suited fo that anyway.

    +1

Thanks how I use my MX200 reverb unit, as outboard gear in my effects rack.  The darn VST plugin was useless and the review I read about it said it was useless too.

If you want, keep it as a rack reverb uint for vocal monitoring, it works great for that.

    Peace
