Install Problems UAD 64bit - Resolved

Just downloaded and installed the UAD 64bit upgrade but something strange has happened - seemed to install OK, the plug in Dll are all OK - although it would not allow me to install anywhere but the original location, what was on my 32 bit cakewalk directory (I have 32bit and 64 bit Sonar installed). The new meter installed and showed all plug ins and authorisations - all plugins show up in the Sonar 64bit plug in manager.

I can install the plugins as normal and the GUI comes up again as normal - but now the strange thing, they don't work and when I have installed some plugins they do not show up in the UAD meter as being installed or active.
I have uninstalled a few time and re installed but to no avail.
The problem I think is that when I go to install / re install the installer will not let me choose where to install them.
This is in Sonar X1 64 bit.
Any ideas greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Nigel

The sixty four bit plugs actually (it seems) want to install into a proprietary UAD folder (check the UAD64 bit threads upstairs) AND the C:Program Files/Steinberg/VST plugins folder (if you have one).  So those folders (or at least the Steinberg one) needs to be in your list of folders to scan in your VST settings in X2.  BUT FIRST you should remove the "powered plugins" folder (just copy it to some other location first if you're afraid of deleting it) from whatever 32 bit VST folder it's installed in.  That way when you "rescan existing presets" in your VST settings area the only thing that X2 will see is your new 64 bit folder(s).  It's a bit convoluted but if you've installed and scanned everything properly...it will work.  Honest.

The 32 bit part of the install worked exactly as per normal for me, the 64 bit plugs just landed in a Steinberg folder the installer created itself in Program Files.

I just moved the Powered Plugins folder from in there to inside my usual 64 VSTPlugins folder rescanned and all is well.

It seems that there is no way to choose the destination of the 64 bit plug-in install so moving them after the event seems the easiest option.  Everything else is fine where the installer puts it all.

Thanks for this but tried it and still no joy - the plug ins are there, they even light up, but they're just not doing anything! I've emailed UAD and shall see what they say - I feel I am going to have to get rid of all UAD stuff (registry as well!!) then try a totally clean re install - but I shall wait to hear from UAD first.
    Thanks again

Thankns to both hof you for outlining this process.  I have downloaded the 64bit UAD update, but not yet installed it.  Your thread will be helpful reference.

Sure wish this forum software had a little button just to note "thanks", but I guess without it we become more expressive.

To elaborate on yorolpal's post, I believe it's the Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins folder you want to make sure and include in your path.  I think the UAD folder contains the program DLL's and the Steinberg folder is the VST's that call each of the program DLL's.  Note that the DLL's in the UAD folder are different sizes from one to several MB and the files in the Steinberg folder are all 69KB and would seem to be just VST shell or wrapper type DLL's.

A few of us also had to remove or move the 32-bit VST files out of the SONAR scan path as well to make sure that there were no conflicts.  They install to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VSTPlugins folder.  With mine it was picking up the 1176 plugins in 32bit mode until I did this and rescanned, and then restarted SONAR.

They call 'em fingers, but I've never seen 'em fing.

Well I uninstalled everything, searched for any extraneous UAD bits and pieces left after the install ( which there where) and then did a clean install - after checking to see if I had a Steinberg folder in my programs list, which I did not - as above, after install I checked again and yes, there was a steinberg folder, complete with the 64bit dll's - I just left it where it was, added a new scan path and all is now well. I think before it was seeing the 32 bit Dll's which loaded correctly in the right place for that on my set up.
I have to say though, why they cannot simply let you have a chance to direct the installation to the correct positions is pretty poor - hardly rocket science these days I would have thought.
Anyway thanks to everyone here as usual - just as a matter of interest, still heard nothing from UAD who I contacted with this problem - just goes to show how well our forum works - cheers!
