Install folders are greyed out for shared, vst and content.

I am wanting to install Sonar Platinum 2016 in my DAW, but in a separate folder than Sonar X3.

When I run the Platinum installer, the install folders for Shared, Vst and Content are greyed out.

I am guessing that the install program detects X3 as installed from the registry and wants to put these files at the same place.
However, I would have liked to install them elsewhere so that if I wish to uninstall X3 later it will not delete the Platinum files in those folders.

Is there any way to create another Cakewalk shared folders directory and have Platinum install there?

Or am I missing something?

Dan

I am not sure it is possible to install completely separate instances of SONAR DAWs. There are parts shared by all instances.

yeah you'd have to dual boot to avoid the shared bits

    OK, thanks for the replies.

I am always logged in as administrator since this computer doesn't go online.

I just noticed also that there seems to be a problem with Windows "Programs and features" and Sonar.
While checking if it was possible to uninstall just portions of Sonar, Windows says it is already uninstalled.
So I will have to eventually delete X3 files instead of uninstalling anyway, I guess.
Don't know what happened there, I have never fiddled around with this installation or anything.

I'll just go ahead and install wherever Platinum wants to install.
    Thanks again,
    Dan

When you uninstall Sonar you are always asked about deleting shared files. You can say no and keep your files.

It would have been a good idea not to touch your X3 installation and not try to uninstall it.
Splat will install alongside X3 using some shared resources.

If it were me, I'd go back and reinstall X3 before attempting to install Splat, but it's your call.......

This topic comes up frequently, and all the version specific folders are actually quite small.

There's really no need, for me anyway, to "clean up" 117 MB. Having both is not an issue.
    Just sayin'...
