Installed VSTi doesn't show up in Sonar

I installed a VST instrument in the VST folder in Sonar, but it doesn't appear in the list for the Synth Rack. I did go into the plugin manager and rescan, but it still doesn't appear in the list. I know it's probably a simple solution, but I'm kinda new at this stuff. What do I do?

What plug was it?  Some (like Waves that use iLok) like a reboot of your DAW before showing up.  Also you might as well try a "full" scan by clicking the checkbox in the VST dialog.  Also remember to look in the proper list, i.e. VST effects, VST instruments etc... in the plug in manager.  Did you simply install the VST or did you physically move the .dll into the folder?

You can see what folders are scanned for VST's by going into the plugin manager and hitting options. Maybe your plugin is in a different folder. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious to you. Alternatively, it could be that Sonar is reading it as a plugin effect rather than an instrument or vice versa. This happened to me and it took me a while to find it even when it was in a scanned folder.

OK, so it suddenly appeared in Sonar this morning. I'd rescanned and rebooted the computer a few times yesterday, to no avail. I guess it was just playing "hide and seek" with me? : )
