Installing c01u on Chromebook

Hi, I recently got a Samson Sonar c01u for my sister, who would be running of it off of her Chromebook laptop. She's now mentioning that the laptop recognizes it but she can't install it nor change the volume level on it. Is there anything we can do get that working on her Chromebook? She doesn't have a disc drive so Im hoping there is a digital version of the CD's contents. If not, I could possibly copy the contents onto a USB for her to use.

What do you recommend?

Well, there's not a lot of love for USB mikes among people who have tried them and failed.
In a way they are a waist of the money you could have spent on a audio interface and a real mike set up. USB mikes cannot be used for anything much other than pod casting.
The bottom line is, without proper drivers these things are at the mercy of Windows audio drivers, sometimes called Legacy Drivers. So they will work with some apps.
I have no clue why they would include Sonar with it as Sonar is not very happy to use those kind of drivers, Sonar likes to see ASIO drivers or WDM.
But Audacity will work fine with those drivers. Download Audacity or Reaper and see what happens.
The other work around would be ASIO4all.

As far as installing Software from a CD or DVD into a Device without a drive. Either buy a external drive for $20 or make an ISO image of the disk, copy it to a flash drive and mount it with Virtual Clone drive or any Virtual Drive, they are free.

while I agree with every thing that johnny said, try changing to MME driver mode in sonar.

warning:  since the USB mic is considered a one way soundcard as far as windows and sonar is concerned, that means that you'll be using your computer's soundcard for output.  with that being the case, that means you'll be using two different soundcards, one for input, one for output.  they will have different clocks and therefore they will drift away from each other causing your tracks to eventually become out of sync.  you won't notice it with short clips, but if you record long clips, up to 3 or 4 minutes each, then your tracks will not line up by the time they both reach the end of the project.

Some of these mikes actually have a Headphone output, looks like this one does not so Beagle is right.. And it looks like this thing might not even run in 64 bt OS?? See highlight.

Using the Samson C01U with Cakewalk Home Studio 2 (Windows)
    1. Plug in the Samson C01U to a USB Port.
    2. Open Cakewalk Home Studio 2.
    3. Go to Options.
    4. Go to Audio.
    5. Go to Advanced.
    6. Under Playback and Recording, select Driver Mode MME32 Bit and click OK.
    7. You will be prompted to restart the program because you switched drivers. Click OK.
    8. After restart, you will be prompted perform a test because of the new driver selection. Click Yes. You will see a screen saying (Analyzing 1 in 1 out). When profile successful, click OK. And the program will open.
    9. Select either a new project or open a existing project.
    10. On the left side under input select, click to select the Samson C01U as an input source. Once you click Record (R) on that channel you will see (Meter) and hear theSamson C01U.
    11. Don't sing too loud as this mike will distort very easily and you have no way to adjust pre amp gain,, because there is none... Oh my my..

Hey hold it a minute, I didn't realize a Chromebook is a weird laptop that runs a special Google Chrome OS.. forget all the above.  You'll need to use what ever audio recording Apps they supply with the Chrome OS, good luck. I kinda doubt any DAW software has been developed for an obscure OS platform.

yep, I didn't even think about that.  sonar won't work on chromebook.  the mic probably will, with the limitations we noted above.
