Instant crash when adjusting the Master Bus in CV (video example)

First of all: This only happens when I have the Console View placed on my my second monitor (within the multidock)

It's not happening with all projects, but with most. When I open a project and then go into the CV and try to adjust anything on the Master Bus, Sonar instantly crashes. Most often this applies to any bus, but it ALWAYS applies to the master bus.

If I first make the Master Fader visable in the inspector (while also having the CV in view) and then adjust the volume of the fader in the Inspector, I can then safely jump into the CV and change the volume of the master in there.

It's like Sonar can't predict that I'd ever want to do something like this and get a chock because of it..

I never had this problem with any version of X1.
You don't really need to tell me to send in problem reports and stuff. Of course I've already done this. (I've lost count how many I've sent in about it, actually)

I just wanted to check if there are more people out there with this problem or if it's just me. ... Cuz if it's just me, I guess it'll never be fixed... :/

Here's a video example of what I'm talking about. It showes the same behaviour in two different projects and I also show how it doesn't crash if you first adjust the volume in the inspector first. Since I had to record both monitors it's quite small and the quality isn't the best. But it's enough to see the problem. Just go 720p and full screen to get the most out of it. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnjZofofhS8

Same here!  I've given up trying to figure it out and have resolved to work around it by only adjusting anything in the Master Bus in the Inspector View.  I haven't had too much problem with any other busses in CV, just the Master.  I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one!  Seems like others have had similar posts previously and most have suggested just to work around it.  If there's a fix I'd like to know about though!!  Thanks for sharing!

That has happened to me as well I am glad you are able to articulate the problem.

We all need to send a problem report.

I replicated on my PC and submitted a problem report.

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

    Replicated here, too, instantly.

I have two monitors, but just have Sonar spread accross both, so have not tried this before.

I've not seen this posted before.  Why not?  As far as I can tell a lot of Sonar users use two monitors this way.

    Thanks for posting, Loptec.

Well this is very interesting - I stopped using X2 and went back to X1 because of what I thought were random graphical bugs - when the X2A patch came out, I installed this but it didn't seem to make much difference, so I reverted to X1 and decided to wait for X2b ... and I waited .....and waited.....

I also use two monitors but have Sonar spread across them.
The Master Bus issue (and some other Cv flaky behaviour) were some of the main reasons why I went back to X1.
To be honest I did wonder if I had some kind of graphical interface clash on my system - I think now this is not the case (problem my system) and  that this is a Bug and quite a Big Bug in the X2 programme.

If anyone from Cakewalk is reading this, on another thread someone said Cakewalk needs to give us an update on the current progress with X2B - I  think they are correct - this is a pretty serious flaw and has stopped me using X2.

Come on guys, what's going on!!
    Thanks

    Nigel

I have the whole of Sonar spread over both monitors, so I can see the Track View over both monitors, or the Console View over both.  I have not had any problems.

After reading the OP, I followed his workflow, and it crashed immediately.  I guess this goes to show why some users have terrible troubles, and others don't.

This happens to me but if I pull CV from my second monitor back to Monitor 1 then save, then exit then go back into the project it resolves itself.

Also, if you open the project, hit save, exit Sonar and restart this sometimes resolves it too.

I have been bashing out error report after error report on this one, it can be very frustrating.

Happens to me all the time. It seems to be worse with Slate VCC inserted. Dual monitors, Console on second monitor. I have reported this many times, though not as detailed, "glad" to see someone else has noticed it at long last.

This could be a silly question, but I'm not in front of Sonar and cannot check. Is it possible to undock the console view from the multidock and just place console view on the second monitor? Would the problem still be apparent then? Sorry if you've already tried this...

You guys are awesome. I'd throw my computer off a cliff if it did that.

Ya'll have the patience of something patient.

FWIW, I launch SONAR 8.5.3 Classic Edition and it works great until I want to turn it off.

That's why I haven't tired to sell my license on ebay... because SONAR 8.5.3 Classic Edition actually works.

    Thanks for the heads up.

I sure hope they get this fixed in X2b.

    best regards,

You using dual monitors now Mike? I thought they skewed your stereo image or something. Good to hear monitor floating is okay in 8.5 though.

I'm using my duals as one big monitor but I might try this later to see if I can replicate.

I'm really glad I'm not the only one with this problem, although I'm sorry for all of you that have it..

I've had this problem since I started using X2 and have sent in countless reports and really thought it would be solved for X2a.. Since it wasn't and also; since I hadn't seen any posts hear about this issue, I started to think I was the only one. That's why I posted this in the first place.. I really hope Cakewalk sees this and maybe even can give us a little update on if this is something they're working on.

Good question about the fxs. It actually seems to have something to do with this!

I opened the project that I use as an example in the video and re-saved it, but without any FX on the master bus. I then closed it and reopened it and it didn't crash anymore.

I can't say if this is what it's all about, but it fixed the problem this time anyway.

In the video I have the PC activated on the master, with only the Concrete Limiter and also the LP-64 EQ.

What I've found with this is, when I start a new project, it doesn't initially happen. Then at some point during the project, it starts happening, and happens 100% of the time from then on. Then on a new project, it's gone again. My project template just has Voxengo SPAN and Flux Stereo Tool in the Master bus FX bin, and Console Emulator, Bus Compressor and EQ on the master ProChannel. I never put anything else on the master bus, unless I'm having to master something myself, which I rarely do.

The new project thing might well be something to do with it. I tried it on the project I'm working on at the moment which is only about a week old. I've only got SPAN and the PC on the buss including the Concrete Limiter. I'll try it on an older project later.

My standard screenset has the CV undocked from the Multidock and floated onto the second monitor.  The problem happens to me in this case.  I don't use anything as far as effects on the Master (usually take my mixed stereo tracks out to SoundForge 10 and do my final tweaks or mastering there)...... So from my perspective I don't see that using any kind of effects or PC on the Master Bus is the source of the problem?  Just my 2 cents..........

Because it appears that there are many of us that have this problem I wonder if it could be due to the system used the OS in particular.

So far it seems it is a problem with floating the CV on one of two monitors and undocked. My OS is Windows 8 Pro 64 bit with 8 GB of memory. I have a GTX 550 Ti with 1 GB of on board memory.

One last thing, I don't think it matters what FX is used.

The crash occurs by just clicking on a buss. In my case it seems to happen on the master buss.

Let us see if our setups have anything to do with it.

    Thank you.

I posted about this problem a week or so ago but I didn't mention that I use two monitors all the time. I have this exact same problem. Instant crash when I adjust bus settings. I've come up with an unusual workaround where I create an empty track and link the volume mute, solo control to a Bus volume mute and solo. This has the added bonus of allowing my control surface to control the bus.

FWIW John I use Windows 7 x64 but it seems strange it develops on John T's set up which would suggest it's not a set up issue but possibly being triggered by an action/setting within Sonar.

I'll try an older project on my system later. I wouldn't normally notice it as I no longer use dual monitors as separate screens. I find screensets and multidock have almost removed that need for me. I still have multi monitors but mine are set up as one super wide dipslay and a mirror monitor by my keyboards.

I've tried a couple of my older projects and don't get it in them either. Perhaps it's a certain action or sequence of actions setting it off.

I've tried a couple of my older projects and don't get it in them either. Perhaps it's a certain action or sequence of actions setting it off.

    ..so strange :/

Sp.. You place the multi dock on the other screen and the console in there? .. and maybe throw in some plugins as well on the master...

Then close down and reopen the project and try and adjust the master in CV? .. :/ ..I really hope they at least can replicate the bug on ONE computer at Cakewalk..

    My specs are:
    Intel Core i7-2600 @ 3.40GHz   3.4GHz
    16Gb RAM
    64bit (both OS and Sonar)

Yeah. In multidock, floated. I've also tried it out of multidock floated. I usually have at least one VST on the master buss in most projects, even if it's only SPAN.

Floating CV is not a set up I normally use so it's a bit impractical to test every single project but as I work on something I'll test it in future to see if I notice anything that causes a crash.

Before you test FBB save it first.
