Instructions for Interplanetary Espionage by Bruce Baldwin

Here's another slab of huge, bombastic prog rock.    I played guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, more guitar, even more guitar, and created a whole lot of electronic orchestraton. I hope you enjoy it.

It was originally built on the bass line at the beginning, and I just kept working at it and working at it until it turned into the hugely layered mini-epic it is now. The final product bears little resemblance to what I started with... Over the course of a couple weeks, various sections of the music were removed and replaced. And in the end it actually has some structure and progression. I'm very happy with how it all turned out.

All the recording was done in Sonar X1 Producer.  The guitars and bass were processed through Guitar Rig. The strings are LASS and the choir is from the Kontakt library. Good taste and restraint probably would have led to toning down or removing those parts, but I just can't help myself when I have all these tools at my disposal! If something's worth doing, it must be worth overdoing...

I'd love to know what you think.

Thanks so much for the positive comments!

Daren - I'm flattered by the comparisons.  King Crimson and Rush are amongst my favorite bands.

I'm with Daren on this.  It shows much influence and much skill.  The mix sounds good on my speakers, and if this were longer, I'd still enjoy it.  Good job, Bruce.

    All the best,

Really enjoyed it Bruce. As a prog fan myself, I'm always looking for the song to take me on a journey, and I think yours does that! Nice!

when I read the title I had in my head what the music should sound like, and I'm not disappointed. BIG prog fan, its what I did my dissertation on, and really enjoyed this track.

    Bruce,
I really dig this.  I like the way you started with the bass riff and then just went off.  Very cool stuff.  I didn't hear anything that I would have cut from this.  The mix sounded good on my system.
