Instrument Definition

Having just purchased a new computer, I reinstalled my Sonar 6 Home Studio. I then downloaded all of my midi files, connected my keyboard (Korg PA2X) and proceeded to check things out. I was able to get sounds but only GM sounds. What are the steps to load the instrument definaitions for the Korg PA2X? Thanks.

I don't have the time and energy to read the Korg manual. Quickly browsing through the specs I'm not sure if the USB connection of the PA2X transmits audio as well as data. If only data (=MIDI) you need to connect the MIDI from SONAR to PA2X and the audio back to your soundcard/ SONAR to hear  the sounds of PA2X. That way the MIDI-track in SONAR plays the sounds loaded in PA2X and sends the audio back to SONAR. Otherwise you need to insert a soft synth and use it's sounds.

How did you connect the Korg - only USB or audio-outputs as well? Downloaded MIDI-files from where to where - I assume from Korg to SONAR? Please be accurate with your descriptions. Don't assume you find lots of people who use PA2X to a answer you or who have energy to study the Korg manual on their free time.

The Instrument Definition does not mean the instrument sounds of Korg (like piano or bass), but meaning the instrument is Korg PA2X.

Thanks for the response. I think this is a Windows 7 issue. I used Vista before on the other computer where both Home Studio 2 and Sonar 6 worked fine. I would just connect a usb to the computer and the other end to the PAx2 midi In and Out. I was able to edit the midi files on my computer using PA2X sounds and then transfer the finished product to the PAX2. I think I read somewhere that only Sonar 8.5 works with Windows 7. I'll keep messing with it until I figure it out. Take care in Sweden.

I have SHS 6 working fine on my Win 7 64-bit computer in 32-bit compatibility mode.
Have you got the ID you want?

To Import Instrument Definitions Choose Options-Instruments to display the Assign Instruments dialog box. Click Define to display the Define Instruments and Names dialog box. Click Import to display the Import Instrument Definitions dialog box. Choose the file that contains instrument definitions for your manufacturer, and click Open. SONAR displays a list of all the instrument definitions in the file. Choose one or more instruments from the list, and click OK. Click Close to close the Define Instruments and Names dialog box. The instrument definitions you imported should now appear in the Uses Instrument list in the Assign Instruments dialog box.
