Instrument definitions are used for hardware synths. All soft synths, Cakewalk's and everybody else's (third parties), use their own internal mechanisms for selecting instruments/patches, which are typically within the loaded instance of the soft synth--drop down list, floating window, etc. Instrument definitions don't apply to soft synths.
