What do you mean "it don't load my instrument definition"?

You setup your instrument definitions and then you have to assign each MIDI track to the appropriate channel, bank and patch. Make sure the tracks don't have embedded program change messages in them or they will override your patch selection.

Hi Daveny5.What I mean is that even if I don't assign Ins. Def to my secuences,Sonar doesn't load my instrument in the default instrument tree or name dialog box each time I'm close a session. It's this a Sonar Bug?

Its not a bug. I've been using that for years and it works perfectly. You are doing something wrong, but I can't tell what because you are not explaining it very clearly.  What is the default instrument tree? What is the name dialog box? I am not familiar with these terms as applied to Sonar.

If you have the Instrument Definition set up properly, then in the MIDI track make sure you have the MIDI output port that is connected to that instrument selected.
Then select a channel. The channel should list the instrument. For example, if channel 5 is assigned to the N364, then when you're selecting channel 5 it should show as 5: N364
Next select a bank. The pulldown should show all of the banks defined in the INS file. With Korg its usually a lot of banks Select one, say PgmU (or whatever they are called on the N364).
Now select a patch, the pulldown should show the patches that are in that bank

Keep in mind that when you're defining the instruments, you have to define all 16 MIDI channels for each MIDI interface.
Let take it a step at a time.

I have a MIDI interface with 3 ports so I have then setup like this:
Port 1: All 16 channels assigned to General MIDI
Port 2: Channel 5 assigned to Vocalist Workstation, Channel 16 assigned to Virtualizer Pro (Fx box)
Port 3: All 16 channels assigned to Korg N1R.

All that procedure than you are explaining,It's seem to be very clear for me.The problem it's simple:Sonar don't save my instrument definitions when I close it.That's.Sonar don't save my instruments in the master.ins file .For some reason,I'm not the only one with this bug.Check this thread      http://forum.cakewalk.com...=instrument+definition

I found that if a channel is not chosen or the bank select is wrong it won't load the instruments. Or maybe it doesn't recognize which one to load. I have one that requires cntrl 0 for bank select. for some reason my definitions included all the banks at first so when first opened it would indicate "Normal" bank select and wouldn't load any instrument definitions. Change to -0- and up popped the definitions.

Whatever. I have it working just fine and have been using it that way for at least 10 years. I took the time to explain it to you step by step. If you don't want to follow that, then good luck to you.

So I had the same issue. I know this thread is old, but maybe it will help someone else. I am running Sonar 5 Studio with Windows 7 64-bit. Same issue. The fix is to run Sonar in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode. This allows the TTSSEQ.INI file to be created which saves the instrument definition data.

To the op, I don't have Sonar on this laptop so I am going from memory - please forgive if I am wrong. Are you sure that you have selected under options/instruments the proper instrument to be associated with the appropriate ins def file ? They are assigned there.

You said you "LOAD the insdef and this has me wondering about your config. You load up the ins def one time and then assign it as I noted. It will then always show up as a available instrument in the track setup-UNLESS and this is critical to remember, it is a USB instrument and you have forgotten to turn it on BEFORE starting sonar. Traditional midi connected instruments won't matter but USB will in Sonar 5.

Geez - just noticed this thread was 2 years old. What a waste
