This was actually released two years ago and hasn't exactly caught on like wildfire since then. Which is not to say it's not an excellent idea; it very well might be. The price tag dampens my curiosity, though.

One potential problem is the presumption that an instrument's harmonic ratios remain constant regardless of the fundamental frequency or velocity. That's probably only true for synthesizers, which already have tracking filters and wouldn't benefit much from this product.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    I've seen it before too.

It seems like it might be a nice way to cut down all the overtones that are NOT in tune with a song key or a chord you playing over. I haven't thought it through... maybe that's a silly idea.

I should try a demo on a vocal some day.

    Surfer EQ doesn't grab me.

What did recently grab me was Track Spacer. I bought it.

Check out this tutorial by a guy demonstrating Track Spacer. It's very illustrative.

    Hi Guys
intrigued by Trackspacer - do you find it worth the time (and money)? could you not do something similar (and perhaps with more control?) with automation on a standard EQ?
Is Trackspacer a better solution than say something like  the auto level plug-ins by Hornet / Waves?
    Thanks
    Nigel

    Nigel,

Bitflipper says it's a waste of money since you can do the same thing with standard tools.

He did point me to similar a 32bit app called Space Boy by Elevayta. I've used it and it is quick and easy when all the instruments are on a bus and the vox are on a separate bus just setup a send an receive (one on each of the buses). Did the trick in less than 30 seconds of work.

I also bought Trackspacer (cuz it is 64bit) and it is similar in approach but I just have not had the time to try it out.

    Baps
Thanks - I have to admit I was sort of thinking much like Bit, but as I had not tried it I thought I would ask - I might go and see if they have a demo as I am just about to embark on a load of vocal recording and mixing - anything for the easy life as they say!!
    Cheers

Nigel - Bapu has everything ever made so it's no wonder he hasn't tried Track Spacer even though he has it. (Not intending to insult Bapu who I envy greatly).

Check out the video link I posted above on Track Spacer. It is different than the regular EQ approaches and it's why I mentioned it in the context of the EQ Surfer you started this post with. The video shows it in a helpful way.

I think Track Spacer is a good addition to the arsenal. I'm glad I got it.

When I tried the 1.0 release, the effect was either too subtle or too obvious. If I turned it down to where I no longer heard that annoying pumping, then I could hear very little difference when I bypassed the plugin. They've since added attack and release controls, which might enable you to mitigate the pumping effect, but I haven't revisited TrackSpacer since so I don't know.

When evaluating it, close the UI and listen as you alternately enable and bypass the plugin. Even better, automate the control so you can listen as it turns on/off/up/down - without watching the cute display, which can visually trick you into thinking it's doing more than it is.

Anyway, I think it's a nice tool. I'd rather have it than not. the updated version is now easy to use and can be applied with subtlety or with more impact depending on what you're trying to do.
