Interesting phrases and sayings by locality....

It's funny to see how people use these sayings in day-to-day life....for example, in the south (or possibly mid-west) I noticed they have sayings like:
"I think he’s one fry short of a Happy Meal....bless his heart"
"He’s uglier than the east end of a horse headed west....bless his heart"

First comes the insult and then everythings is fixed with "bless his heart"....

Substitute that for numerous alternatives over here, e.g. 'A pork pie short of a picnic'

One I like from this part of Scotland is 'What's for ye will nae go by ye' (or you'll get what's coming to you)

I know a few interesting phrases from my area but most of them are *ahem* a little on the colorful side and thus can't (or should not) be repeated here in the bapu forumn....

No time for a complete list, but here's a few off the top of my head (damn they're hard to read up there!):

One can short of a six-pack (or he has all the cans but is missing the plastic rings to hold them together)
His elevator doesn't go to the top floors
He's not playing with a full deck
The lights are on but nobody's home
Two bricks short of a load
One note short of a chord

    (Bless his heart!)

You should hear what they say on Grzylyrg.

It's not easy to translate but when it involves the tar from the road, an Izylrks (similar to wallabees) and saliva (called zlyzlzka) you're better off not hearing it.

I've heard "sharp as a marble" and "clear as mud" before as well.

Hmm...  I think a comprehensive list should be collected.  I tend to overly reuse a few so it would be good to have more options.  Although it's not really that hard to make up new ones I would think...

"... a few pages short of a chapter"
"... a few links short of a chain"
"... two syllables short of a haiku"
"... one patty short of a hamburger"
"... a few leafs short of a branch"
"... a few slices short of a pizza"

    Etc.!

I guess the nearest local equivalent to that here would be "like a goldfish on a bicycle" or "he's about as much use as a cow with a rifle".

Most of our local colloquialisms in NY are unrepeatable in mixed company, but a quick take on some printable ones would be-

Not the sharpest tool in the shed
About as fast as a herd of turtles in a bowl of soup

... and they never say bless his heart afterwards... after all this is NY.

In reference to a coworker, we say "as worthless as tits on a rattlesnake".  He is too.
