Intuit are the biggest liars in the whole wide world
I cannot talk to these people without them misinforming me at best, and outright lying through their stinking teeth at worst.
I use Quickbooks for my payroll. My annual subscription was approaching and they sent me an offer to buy an upgrade to QB 2014 and Enhanced Payroll for $499. So I go on Amazon and see what looks like the same package for $279. Hmm....so I called Intuit and asked what the difference was, if any. The rep told me that their $499 offer was better value because the payroll subscription included in it allowed unlimited employees at no extra cost, while the Amazon one was going to be an additional charge of $2 per employee per month. I asked her whether she was doubly sure of this. She said yes, but to be 100% she would ask her supervisor. Brief pause. Yes, supervisor confirms it. I added the figures up in my head and almost bought the Intuit offer there and then over the phone. But something - perhaps all of my prior experience of being BS'd by Intuit - stopped me at the last minute and I said I'd think about it.
In the course of "thinking about it," I read the small print on the Intuit offer and there it was: "additional employees will be charged at $2 per month per employee." It was exactly the same as the one on Amazon. What a bunch of bare faced liars they are at Intuit. I bought the Amazon one and saved myself about $220. That's like my X3 upgrade and about half of my Melodyne upgrade right there.

Funny, I've never known an Inuit to be a liar!?!? But then again, I've only purchased whale meat from them ... never software.

sharke ... I use Quickbooks for my payroll. ...
I wouldn't BEFORE you talk to a REAL accountant to suggest how/what you need to do for your business/taxes. I used it for the folks I did their book keeping for about 8 years. It was SIMPLY a piece of software to organize the information, from the deposits, to the checks written, to the expenses and all that. I setup the categories for each expense according to the Schedule C and at the end of the month did a report, and each quarter pulled out the Payroll Taxes information and made sure that the checks and payments were made! At the end of the quarter a copy of it went to our accountant, and in all that time, we never had to amend any of these reports. Most professionals do not use that kind of software. AND, it was not designed to be used by professionals, either! The software is way too top heavy for the crunching systems used in most accounting offices! As for cost, my mom's costs about $6k per year! And the Tax portion is another $8k per year ... BUT ... they have updates almost weekly and these programs are tight ... and GOOD! AND NOT FULL OF STUFF YOU DON'T NEED!

My wife uses Quickbooks because so many clients use it. I can tell you from personal experience, I have seen her make dramatic changes in peoples lives. I have seen her help more than one business go from paying thousands, in one case over 20k a year in taxed to getting refunds.. nothing shady. She is totally honest but she knows the rules and the IRS. A good CPA, who will take the time to do the work and who cares can make a real difference. They will also stand between you and the IRS is you ever get audited. They become your agent and the IRS can no longer even contact you. Generally a CPA can do the same thing as a "Tax Attorney" at a fraction of the cost. Just a little from what I have seen and heard... Sharke... I hope you called Intuit back and pointed it out to them. You should and you should report them to your state's customer protection office. That is just wrong. J

I kept city records, all records, for 5 yrs that was audited every year by state and federal auditors...which has to be accurate to the penny. Didn't use a computer and the city wasn't fined during those 5 years.

I use an old "free" version of QB.... from 2003 to keep my company books.... it prints the reports I need, keeps track of expenses and income and it works.... Perhaps the folks there are training for a career in national politics....?

I have a pretty decent accountant, they don't do the payroll but they keep me on my toes in filing 940/941, sales taxes etc. Quickbooks does me very well and I don't have any problem with the program itself, I just hate Intuit. Not only are they dishonest but they're complete *****'s as well. For instance I was quite happy using QB 2007 when they disabled the functionality to email invoices, forcing me to upgrade.
I though about moving to Peachtree but from what I've heard, they're just as bad.
