Ipad and recording music
Hello, I am not a fan of popular devices but there is one thing I would love to know. Would anyone recommend the Ipad for sketching musical ideas and then finishing them off in Sonar? I heard there is good music making apps for the Ipad such as Nano Studio. Is it possible to do some basic Midi recording on an Ipad. Maybe do some Midi drums and a bass track and then exports those tracks as Wav files over to Sonar? I dont have any real interest in Apple products. I am always wary of Hip and cool things. They naturally make me suspicious and wary. However I do know that Apple are miles ahead in terms of Music making Apps than their competitors. It would be handy if I could get some tracks started on a Tablet and then bring them over to Sonar to properly develep them. Is it possible to do this or am I getting ahead of myself. I really dont know much about this area hence the question. Thanks in advance-Steve

Band in a Box is now available on the ipad and iphone. You can plug your guitar right into the ipad and record. As these devices get more powerful I see a migration to them in the future. A friend of mine has recorded a whole CD worth of music on Band in a Box (on a mac not an ipad) and it sounds pretty dang good. You wouldn't be able to tell if his music was recorded in Sonar, Protools, Cubase or whatever DAW.

Thanks for the reply guys. I appreciate it. Windsurfer- I understand your Postition. I am not an Apple fan. I have no interest in the Iphone or other Apple products. However I can see a potential use for me in getting the Ipad two when it comes out this summer because it does seem to have the potential as a musical sketch board for me which I could then finish off in Sonar. Other operating systems such as Android seem to be behind at present and according to rumours here the Ipad 2 will be competitively priced which is more than I can say for the Iphone which costs a small fortune here and is definitely not worth it.

And, if you own an I-Pad and Sonar, you can get the app the controls the transport of Sonar. Very cool. I want to get one soon.

A1MixMan- I am learning a lot in this post. Thanks for the info. Drums and bass take me ages to program as I am not a Drummer or a Bass player and have to mess around a lot before I get them right. If I could get them organised before I start working on a project it would save me a lot of time. So the idea of a sketch pad before I even open a DAW is really appealing but only of course if its really feasible.

Hey A1 I presume you mean the AC-7 Core app (they had an older AC-7 DAW control surface too). Know anyone who's tried it? Very tempted - just picked up an Ipad2 on Friday. And to the OP, Garageband looks pretty cool - the kids love it. When I can wrestle it off them, I'll see if it's a useful sketch pad. Cheers, Peter.

try garageband, for 5 bux, its a great on the fly song writing tool. just got it today and already completed a rough schetch. need to figure out how to get the files out if I were to actually use them in sonar which I doubt, but the idea was there and no messing with this or that, complete ease of mind to machine. btw i am a pc lover, just own an ipad. If you already own and iPad, it's less than 10 bucks for DAW control. Confused.....
