Irish National Anthem (New arrangement)

Can I lend some ears please.

This is our national anthem (not the best national anthem it has to be said!), and I've arranged it into an orchestral/folk rock anthem. Most of you will not know it, which is prob for the better, but can you take a listen and let me know anything that stood out or could be changed.

excellent Cian - the passion really comes through in the vocal performance - nice one. If you don't mind me saying, hints of the Fleet Foxes in there (fab imo)

I have deep roots in your country... I had never actually heard the anthem though? lots of relatives with names that started with Big M little c.

    Is this Gaelic?

Solders we are indeed... Good job on this.

    Thanks guys.

Glad you liked vox Lynn & Daryl. (not familiar with fleet foxes which I will have to check out).

Robby, it is Gaelic to be sure, bit funny aint it! I hope I pronounced them right, Ill have neighbouring folk barking at me. Good to hear you have a root or two connected. Ah the big M and the little c, the official Irish Stamp of approval!

Thanks Kev, gives it a life for sure.

Anything stand out guys, that beginning flute is midi, It doesn't sound fantastic but wondering is it obnoxious to the ears?

    Cian

(*Dang the fleet foxes are class, kind of country folk with a pop vocal, and what dashing beard/hairstyles they have!)

The vocals up to about 1:20 sound shaded left, especially bouncing off that plucked thing on the right.

May the road rise up to meet you...

Well Cain, for a not "the best" anthem, you sure made it seem so. I love the performance and arrangement. I would be proud to stand to this. I am not fond of this mix though. Its hard to say what is happening. I find it biased to the left overall. I also find it a bit too presencey. I might bring the mids back a bit. I find some of the instruments piercing. Similar to what James said in another thread, there is a lot of empty space, but the space that is occupied is cluttered.

    Hey Cian,
really nice work!  love the change up at 2:20!

the kick needs some beef, to my ears and less beater.

the flute is not bad at all for MIDI, not offensive at least!

really nice arrangement and performance!  mix sounds good!

Hi Cian.  This is really a nice arrangement.  Your vocals certainly come through with a lot of passion and although I don't understand the lyrics they come through with a lot of pride.
    Nice one!

Hi Jim, I can hear you saying that jokingly with that Irish leprechaun impression American people do when they take us off , cousins are always at it "top of the mornin' to ya"! Thanks for commenting, I have amended the vocals at the start, they shouldnt be as severely panned now.

Foxwolfen, glad you liked it and more so for your crits. The left side issue should be tamed a little. In terms of the mix, I dont really know how to take it a step further, so Ill leave it as is for the time being.

Freddie & Starise, thanks a lot. And happy the vocals gave you that pride feel even though you don't know it, that comment means a lot in term of doing it justice.

Beagle, I'm glad you said it about the kick cos I too thought that it was a bit clickly especially when I listened to it on my iphone speaker. Ive tamed it down so it shouldnt be as present. You can let me know if it still doesn't cut the mustard. I know a few flute players, I might get them to do the start for me, make it the real deal.

    Thanks

It's always interesting to hear someone sing in another language w/talent? Which is why I give the pleasure to my fellow commuters of swearing at them in loud full voice? With invective combinations they've probably never heard... (With hand gestures...) MARTHA FAULKER!!! (She was a good woman... and deserves to be remembered.)

I'm sorry for that right there Lord? And please be w/the pygmies in New Guinea...

    Thanks a lot Janet!

Robby, w/talent? How dare you even put a question mark after that! Well that lady you refer to must get hell of a hard time cos her name sounds the very same as......oh.....well...yeah....... I see what you've done there :-)
