I don't understand finance either, but the words "investigation," "violations," "breaches," "shares" and "plummeted" stuck out like sore thumbs

The last line says a lot: Pro Tools Expert is an independent support community and is not affiliated with Avid Technology. When even the fanboys and the users community formally dissociate themselves from the manufacturer...

Better safe than sorry I guess I wonder what's going on over there. It seems like they have some financial issues, not really related to sales, but to bad financial control within the company. Imagine if Avid went bancrupt, that would change everything

Hmmm... still works over here. The US site. All of them actually. Perhaps they're downgrading the servers or they're being bombarded by users who need to download softwre for back up purposes, causing some instabillity along the way And speaking of conspiracy theories....

Stock holders are incensed to learn that Avid is performing bug fixes for major Hollywood film studios for no extra charge while Avid seemingly ignores the massive profit potential of developing Media Composer and Pro Tools for the iOS platform. Watching other businesses sell other things the company they have invested in doesn't even make must be driving some stock holders crazy. :-)

Looks like their stock is going down, and shareholders are wondering what the company is doing since it is not putting out a report on earnings for the 4th quarter of last year.

If you read the link, the "investigation" is by a law firm (actually two) that are specialists in litigation (were they not law firms many would call it shaking down) corporations. On the law firm websites you will find attempts to woo "whistle blowers" who might actually have some real information about the issue. This is not a government investigation, it is some lawyers trying to find out if there is a way for them to make money recruiting clients from among the shareholders.

(Secret meeting at Roland HQ) "Well, I'd say that Operation Tool is a surprising success!" "Are we certain nothing can be traced back to us?" "Of course! We followed all of the recommended protocols. Secret message drops, payments routed through the Cayman Islands, unfriending Avid on Facebook... You name it, we did it." "How long will the 'Investigation' take?" "It only has to last long enough to take them down a few notches!" "So, do we proceed with Operation Steinberg?" "Let's give it a few weeks." "As a precautionary measure, we should also greenlight Operation Presonus." "Really? I like those guys. They're kind of funny." "I suppose we could hold off for a while." "Are we sure no one suspects anything?" "Absolutely. I'm just going to upload these meeting videos to Facebook for safekeeping."

Who knows what this means. Option 1: The have already abandoned the consumer line and dumped M-Audio. Could be they go back to the high-end only approach and focus on movie studios and remaining sound studios at the same time walking away from the home studio market. Welcome back to proprietary hardware. Option 2: They get serious about the consumer market and improve their midi functionality while simultaneously focusing on broader adoption of 3rd party interfaces. Option 3: They sell off to Roland and we get a product with the best midi and best audio hybrid capability. Option 4: The rats start leaving the ship before it sinks. Option 5: They develop their own consumer low cost hardware and make it required. That might be the ticket for future profitability if they have not drained the cash flow.

craigb Bub I'm sensing a 'songs about 'farms'' thread coming. EIEIO? C'mon, who wouldn't want one of these lamps??? Cool! I want one! Reminds me of my favorite video game, Redneck Rampage. It's from the 90's. I was reading someone recently bought the rights to it? A PS4 game perhaps? Oooh. :)

UbiquitousBubba That was a good game. I enjoyed it. Sure was. I had the expansion packs, and the cuss pack. (That got old after a while.) Suckin' Grits' on Route 66 and I can't remember the other one, but there were two add-on packs for it. There used to be an entire web site dedicated to it ... but it's gone now. You could get all kinds of add-on's and graphics changes for it. Sound clips, midi files, user forum. It was called Bertram's Lair. Gone but not forgotten. Heh. :) I still have all of my Quake games and add-on packs. Those were good times back then, trying to eek every last bit of memory out of DOS to get this stuff to run. Oh, and trying to get the Midi stuff to work inside the game was a real treat too! :)

I used to run Quake I servers and was ranked in the top 25 as a player on some international website that recorded data on over 300,000 players. I thought it would be something to put on my resume, but my headhunter at the time didn't see the value. What a Putz he was...
