Is Melodyne essential worth buying for $39.99?
That's what it cost at Guitar Center now. I haven't even used V-vocal much yet, but I have a lot of vocals to record this year. Thanks!

I was browsing through my old files and found I had a copy of Melodyne Essential that I never registered. So I registered it and got the latest version. I haven't used it yet...but have been watching the videos for Editor, which I can upgrade to right now directly from Celemony for $149. I'm trying to get Audio Deluxe to lower thier current price of $189 because of this sale. No reply yet. I'd check out the video's on YouTube...it seems to be quite the powerhouse in the full version. If you bought this you could be into Editor for less then $200.

I don't want to spend that much right now, but I might when I actually need it. $39.99 I would do, if it does basic pitch correction.

I have it and use it. It works great but it pretty much only changes pitch and timing. It doesn't have the formant control enabled and you can't really change the pitch within a note, like the singer starts out flat and moves up to pitch. If I need more control I still use V-Vocal. If Audiodeluxe.com or Plugindiscounts.com ever beat the Celemony website price, I will probably get Editor. Thanks for working on that cclarry!

Yes. Melodyne. Get it. Even if you pay full price it's well worth it. Throw the gimpy old V-Vocal in the trash and Melodyne up. You'll never look back. Mike

HERE'S a comparison chart. Start with essential and you always have an upgrade path. I'm a junkie so I went balls-out and fully loaded. Money sooo well spent. Mike

Yes - is the short answer. The cheap price has been around for quite a while, so even if you decide to ponder, it'll more than likely return.

I am just wondering how you are finding Essentials for 39.99. When I look at Guitar Center it is 69.99. Do you have a special code or some other way of getting it for cheaper? I would be eager to take it for the 39.99 thanks Dave

Apparently the upgrade to Editor for $149 is exclusive to Celemony. I got an email from Ginny @ AD saying that the offer was only available directly from Celemony... that's still the best price I've seen for this...

Essentials is just a tease IMO. Cause without these functions, it's not really Melodyne but just another pitch corrector. Advanced pitch tools (transitions, modulation, drift) – Formant tool (shifting and transitions) – Amplitude tool (volume, transitions, mute) – Dedicated Note Separation tool – Dedicated Timing tool – Attack Speed tool – – Time Handles for the time course within notes

I bought the cheap $39 version when it was a M/F stupid deal of the day about a year ago. For me it was a waste of $$, I have an old cheap version of Antares Autotune and it works much better.

I just received an offer from Celemony to upgrade Studio for $49. I paid $300 (!) for the product in 2006 and have never upgraded despite multiple offers over the years. I think they've finally come down to a pricepoint I can't say no to.

Yup...it is just a tease...but a dern good one. Once folks see what ol Mel O'Dyne can do for em and how easy it is...they're bound to upgrade to Editor. And why not? And to my ol pal Fireberd I'd just say put Melodyne Editor up against Autotune any day of the week and twice on Sunday and ol Autotune will run cryin to it's momma. And yea, I've got both;-)

This may or may not be a deal breaker, but the trial version says it requires an internet connection not only for the usual initial set up but also "on each program launch" - so no good for me as there is no way my DAW pc is ever going on the www. Don't know if this also applies once you own it or not - maybe one of the regular users can tell us ?

So I finally upgraded from Melodyne Cre8 to Melodyne Studio. Note to anyone upgrading from one edition to a different one: save yourself some frustration and uninstall the old one first! paulo, an internet connection is not mandatory, at least not for the full version.

TBH, I don't use Melodyne all that much. I've become very selective about what I pitch-correct. Often it's only a note or two, which V-Vocal can handle more conveniently. Where Melodyne makes my day is when I'm doing tight multipart harmonies, and then I use it more for level matching and phrasing than for pitch correction. It never ceases to amaze me how difficult it is to make a vocal worse with Melodyne. paulo, if you record singers you won't regret getting it. Those singers will love you for it, too.

bitflipper paulo, if you record singers you won't regret getting it. Those singers will love you for it, too. I don't record singers - I record me "singing" which is not really the same thing and I need all the help I can get. Maybe I'll just take the plunge on the full version one day when funds permit as I have learnt to trust your advice. Does this mean that I will love myself though? ;)

I need all the help I can get. Don't we all! Even good singers tend to be very nit-picky when mixing their own voices. With Melodyne you can be as nit-picky as you want. The hard part is knowing when to stop, before you've Melodyned the life right out of the performance!

I'm am so out of the scope of Melodyne, although I've found that running an angle grinder through a steel girder while I'm tracking improves my vocals greatly. I don't know why that would work but I swear it does. I've tried all the pitch correction solutions known to man but they all throw the same error message that says "Your Mic appears to be connected but we cannot determine what to at this time".
