Is Waves Platinum Bundle in Sonar Platinum Redundant or Worth It?
The word Platinum aside, with everything we have in Sonar Platinum (console emulation, ca2a, Pro Channel EQ and other modules) is it worth spending money on something like the Waves Platinum bundle? It includes 50 Waves plugins and is on sale for $495 (after additional discount) at Audiodeluxe.com until the end of the day today (9/6/16). Would love to hear what people who actually have these plugins think. Thanks!

The plugins are different to a degree but provide mostly the same functionality, I personally would find them redundant and would not fork over the $500 for them. I've used a number of them in the bundle, and still own a few, but don't even use them. The thing that is generally lacking in the basic Plat bundle is the "maximizer" / limiting plugs. However, I got a free/cheap one that is quite good and I preferred it to many more expensive ones. http://www.toneboosters.com/tb-barricade/ (they made a computer music magazine version, so I refer to that one as the free one - though it would cost about $5 to get it). Other plugs like the compressors would add different flavors, as well as the de-essers. The question would be do you want/need those flavors at a $500 output? I also recommend the MJUC Compressor for different flavors. Way cheaper than the Waves stuff and sound and works great.

The computer music version is free with the purchase of a digital copy of any recent issue (which is ~$5). Yes, the full version direct from them is $20. The function between the two is very similar.

I have Waves Mercury and I use parts of it on every mix. As myolpal, that's what makes a horse race. It takes all kinds. Brian owns them and doesn't use them, I do. Go figure.

I would not go for it - I find very little of the extras worth it compared to other bundle combinations. It's just 10 more plugs not in the Gold bundle, and Renaissance Channel is the only one I added separately having vouchers at some time. Waves Gold bundle you can get some time very year down close to $250. Other necessities for me are: a) CLA Classic compressors b) Kramer TTT c) SSL 4000 d) NLS non-linear summer e) Tune full version, not supported by Sonar though, Maybe Melodyne compares, don't know. f) IR1 reverb and none of that extra over Gold is in Platinum bundle. So look out for campaigns for these, I really use them everywhere. And Waves support is excellent, and really well thought out consistent with all plugins with help, A/B testing and also own presets in menues easily accessible, no looking on disk for them. And their license system is less intrusive than iLok(Softtube use it if getting that), you can use disk or just any memorystick on usb. I never ran a Sonar with PC though, so if any compares I cannot say.

You can always pick and choose from Waves plugins since they often have weekly or weekend specials that cost starting at $29 per plugin usually marked down from a much higher amount. I've been taking advantage of their specials and over the last couple of years or so have picked up quite a few USEFUL plugins. Their quality is quite high. Get on their email list and check every week. Sometimes they have a one-day special as well as buy one and get another plug thrown in for free. Regards

I wouldn't go for a bundle. WAVES has got excellent plugs, but you need to pick what you really need. Some of the best have been mentioned above (IR1, NLS, ...) but whether they fit your requirements you need to decide yourself. The ones I bought with some smaller bundle I hardly use, the ones carefully I selected for a reason see heavy use. Don't forget you can demo each one to see if you really need it!

to be honest, Waves is putting loads of useless crap in cheaper bundles, basically the Waves plugins I really enjoyed were part of Mercury bundle, so get the Mercury demo, determine what plugins you like and then - either buy that huge 7600$ pack, OR (subscribe the newsletter and) keep an eye on (weekend) deals and just get individual plugins! btw I suggest checking DMG Audio and FabFilter plugins ;)

I just de-installed a big waves bundle -- the endless checks for licensing, requiring internet access each time, were driving me nuts and I didn't use much if any of it on a regular basis. Big waste of money, imo.

There is no need for internet based licensing at all if you put the license on a standard USB stick. On the whole, I really like their licensing scheme. One time I forgot my USB stick at home and I could activate online (once per year limit unless you later retrieve the original USB license). Pretty slick.
H-Delay, Puigtech EQs, L2, IR-L (with its useful 5GB impulse library), Maxxbass and the Renaissance stuff are staples of almost every project I have and I have plenty of FabFilter and other plugs too. It's true there are some in there that I wouldn't really use. But there are also some in there that are quite unique (Maxxbass and Doppler for instance). Whether it's worth the money is up to you.

You must be doing something wrong. You can have local licenses on your HDD or USB stick.

Always possible I'm doing something wrong, but with the licenses on my hard disk, Sonar Platinum startup (even before selecting a saved project to open) went from instant to 30-60 seconds of wait time. I'm certain it was waves because it's gone now.

Still instant for me. Waves plugs are scanned in the background and are really quick unless my installation has been modified. I have Horizon. Did you have a demo or a bought product? Always possible there is a difference in the license handling.

Certainly many possibilities. Mine is (was .. uninstalled at the moment) a bought Diamond bundle. Maybe the access was so slow because I usually have the internet deactivated, so perhaps each of those 60 plugins was trying briefly to say hi to home, and report on what I was up to. At this point, waves (not even present) still crashes cubase on startup. Used to be present and not now? Crash.

Any of you use the Waves RS56? It's on sale for $43.56. Described as a passive equalizer with powerful sound-shaping capabilities, the RS56 Universal Tone Control was originally introduced in the early 1950s and used in Abbey Road Studios to prepare recordings for the record-lathe, as part of the process we now know as “mastering.”

FWIW, Waves support is awesome. You have to have a membership but in that it's much like Sonar. You get a one year subscription for your plugs when you buy them. So if you run into any issues like WilliamCopper, give them a ring or an email. They respond within a day usually and go out of their way to solve your issue.
