Is double screen possible when one is a laptop?

Just wondered if there a way to hook up a flatscreen monitor to a laptop so you get double screen pleasure?

Windows 10/64, Intel i7 Xeon X6575 3,07GHz, 24Gb RAM, chipset: Intel X58 Express, Kingston SSD 240Gb,  Sonar Platinum , Edirol UA-25.  (Some extra VSTs: PSP almost all/  IK - AT4, ST3, / AAS - all/ TH3 full/ +10dB/ Melodyne Editor). EVE sc205 monitors, Defil Kosmos guitar, blue lava lamp, ashtray.  And there is some great music you may find at: https://soundcloud.com/pawel-jan-1

you can also buy a docking station for your laptop (look them up)
this way you can use dual large screens VS. using one laptop screen and one flatscreen.

    Windows 8.1 X64 Sonar Platinum x64
    Custom built: Asrock z97 1150 - Intel I7 4790k - 16GB corsair DDR3 1600 - PNY SSD 220GB
Focusrite Saffire 18I8 - Mackie Control

From my own experience I would say the only limitation may be your video card, as long as both allow dual monitors there won't be a problem.  Unfortunately I found out 2 years after getting my computer and finally getting a tablet to use as a second monitor that my computer didn't allow for multiple monitors

I have managed to set up two large screen monitors on my laptop - one on the HDMI output, and one on the D Connection. Both work in high res. Laptop screen no longer needed.

Sonar - Platinum (always up to date)
    PC - Dell XPS 13 7th Gen Intel i7, 500GB SSD, 16GB RAM, 2 x 27" HD monitors, connected via a D3100 DOCKING STATION.
    OS - Windows 10 x64
    Interface - Focusrite Scarlett 8i6, Yamaha MG12XU

Rack FX - TC Helicon Voiceworks Plus, TC Electronics M300
    MIDI - M AUDIO Keystation PRO 88, Focusrite Scarlett 8i6, Roland UM-ONE Mk 2, Yamaha MU100R

    Microphones - sE X1, AT 2035, Neumann TLM102
    Monitors - Yamaha NS7, ATH-M50 'Phones
