Is fuzzy buzzing caused by sound card?

I spent a couple of days finding the cause for the unwanted distortion effect on my acoustic guitar. Finally found it. Windows has it's own audio effects dialogue. Clicked "mute all effects"(or something like that) box and Voila! This left me with a constant, unwavering fuzzy buzz "shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" sound during playback only. I'm thinking it is my factory Realtek High def sound card. Does that sound right to you pro's?
Thanks

it shouldn't do that, but I wouldn't be completely surprised.  I will always recommend an upgrade soundcard if you can afford it.  check my website for soundcard recommendations.

in the meantime, does your soundcard have the same sound during playback of mp3's or wave files like from Windows Media Player?

try importing a song (mp3 or wave) into MC5 and play it back...see if it still has the noise.

factory cards can do strange things at times.

Try unmuting all effects, then turn each one off seperately until you find the one that's causing the noise.

    Thanks,
I imported a small file that I recorded in Windows- Just the basic computer recording program, and it played without the buzzing noise. That's a good sign. I have this feeling that the answer to my dilemma is just a mouse click away on some deeply hidden, rarely referenced dialogue box. frustrating...

Good Idea. See if I can find that list again.

iamnact - yes I know OF him, but have never met him.  absolutely great vocalist!

ok - so next questions are:
what are you plugging into the input - is it an acoustic electric cable or are you plugging in a microphone?
if you're plugging in an acoustic electric cable into the MIC input instead of the LINE input then you could well be hearing that noise/distortion because of gain stage problems.

also, unfortunately the realteks don't necessarily have great mic inputs and it could be a problem with the hardware itself.

    I'm using a microphone (cheapy). But, I've tried w/ no mic/just built-in computer mic-get same result.

is this the same mic you used when you recorded in windows recorder?

if so, let's try one of the other driver modes.  try WASAPI if it's available (it might not be available) or MME if it's not available.
