Is it just me, or is cut/paste not working on Buss automation?

I have been experiencing problems with copying, cutting, pasting, moving, altering, editing automation envelopes since the day I first started using X1. I've learned to just avoid it, although I don't think we should be forced to do that for something we paid money for. Maybe you can do a better than I can at explaining to the folks at Cakewalk about the problems with automation.

Well, I just mixed an entire song (took three days) with massive buss automation.. now I want to edit the structure. Guess what... I have to re-do all my buss automation. Is anyone at CW listening? Guys?

It's exactly THIS TYPE OF SITUATION-That is Not Good Enough, ROLAND cakewalk Directors. 


I bought X1 studio[boxed],and then X1 Producer[boxed],an i7 CPU Dell XPS L502X Laptop,and I experienced issue after issue[and THAT Laptop is Still not Consistent or stable],and then I bought a WHOLE NEW i7 2600k Computer,to get X1 to FINALY behave with some consistency.


Fortunately,the LAST effort,seemed to help the most,but due to it being my first Daw,I thought a lot of the instability/commands not working,were user error,but I have since learned,There Is a LOT to be SAID about SONAR X1 being Extremely "Machine Specific"


I'm reasonably happy NOW,but a product should not be advertised in a way that it entices everyone implicitly,that it is PRO LEVEL,when clearly people using it for their income,such as "LJB" are having UNTENABLE issues,some of which have been around since the 2010 release.


As I said in another thread: No More Toys[Pro Channel Modules/Add Ons] Please Concentrate Effort into "STABILITY" on all Fronts,OR at Least Give HW specific Details Known,for Maximum Functionality[instead of a very in-adequate "Min Requirements",and a narrow 2 or so branded vague reccomendation, for suitable machines]


I'm talking specific HW components/model no.s,and specific recomendations,that even though I'm new to computing,seemed to have Actually Found,and is OBVIOUSLY a good place to Start,as we Love Sonar X1,or more accurately,We Wan't to Love It,and if it were fixed,X1 would be the BEST.


Isn't that what ROLAND/cakewalk would really like to have?

Can't get it to behave - does random stuff when I cut/paste entire parts of songs including buss automation. Anyone else have this problem? X1D Producer 32 bit on Win 7 64, FYI.

This seems to be one area where they just can't seem to get it right - version after version.


I'm very positive about X1 Expanded these days, but automation just seems to be a problem area for Sonar's programmers.


Franklly, Bus automation is the worst I've used/seen of any other DAW product and I can't figure out why they orphan this function year after year.


If we all keep complaining -- maybe they'll finally take notice and put some effort into this area.

This function has been treated as the staff view has. 

And with X1 it has become more difficult to use by adding menus for "quick" changes and selections.

It has functioned pretty much consistenly for years, I figger its behaviour is by-design.

And since this function has been effectively de-cluttered, no need to complain ever again.

Well, although I don't know if I understood your problem certainly, I could give you some help.

I just found a method(or trick) to copy and paste automations of bus track with lots of trying. I don't know exact reason why this works but anyway it works(in high probability).

First, all of your automations have to have two nodes that are placed EXACTLY on the start point AND end point.
Example) If your targeted automated range is from measure 4 to measure 9, you need to make one node to the start point of meaure4 and another node to the end point of measure 9 with same 'time value(M:B:T, H:M:S:F, etc)' what start and end point have. 

Second, select these region by dragging mouse on the target bus track using smart tool(f5). And you can see targeted region on the 'ruller' of the track view(I don't know the name, but I mean the gradation place where marker is inserted) is changed to dark as well as bus track. But important thing is that first node on the start point must not be selected although the region on the ruller include the whole region.
Example) Drag mouse using smart tool(f5) from right node (measure 9) to left node(measure 4). But mouse dragging  must not reach node 4 but goes as close as possible to node 4 until the color is changed to dark(it would be easy with magnified view) . Now you can see the color of the target range(from measure4 to measure9) is changed to dark BUT first node on the start point of the measure 4 is not selected.

Third, press ctrl + c at least 3~4 times then move mouse point to the place to paste.
(it is strange thing but pressing ctrl + c several times then waiting for over 3 sec then pasting it seems to works best.)

Forth, press ctrl + v.

It would work in high probability. If first trying doesn't work, second or third trying may work(my experience).

It only works per track.

But sometimes it can ruin other automated region that is not selected to copy/paste.
Anyway important things are two nodes on the start point and end  point of targeted region with exact timing, and NOT selecting node on the start point when selecting(dragging) the targeted region although whole region(4~9 in the exapmle)'s color will be changed to dark meaning that it is selected well(including first node in the region).

Can you clone the track, cut the events, and then paste events from the target track?

Example:  SOURCE TRACK has automation that you want to copy to TARGET TRACK.  Clone SOURCE.  Delete all events except automation in CLONE.  Copy events from TARGET into CLONE.  Now delete or archive TARGET. 

This has been a problem as long as I can remember. It is not an X1 issue its a Sonar issue. It is something that should have been fixed a very long time ago.

The whole reason for a buss pane in the TV is for buss automation, a feature of Sonar. Its hard to understand why CW has not done something about this all these years.
