Is it possible in the latest versions of Sonar Platinum moving video on the timeline?
Hi Bros ! Does anyone know is it possible now to move the video clip on the timeline or not? I have Sonar Platinum .. not the latest version. Until now, I can not do it and it's very annoying when working with video. If this is not possible then I have a question to the developers ... WHY? :-(

No it is not. There is no video editing in Sonar.

You can move video on the timeline with Windows native formats (avi and wmv), but not with MP4.

Hmm... I will try to explain the easier ... I have a video clip on the timeline already. Can I move it to another location on the timeline ? That he does not start from the beginning of the track... let's say from second bar for example...

I don't work with video but I believe in order to change the start time of a video in a project requires changing the VideoEngine paramater in Aud.ini to 0, the old DirectShow engine, see https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Troubleshooting.10.html. Changing to the old DirectShow engine results in support for fewer video file types. The new Media Foundation engine supports more file types but is still waiting on Microsoft to support the other features like moving clips on the time line.

Scook ! You're cool again ! It works !!! Now I can move my clip on timeline ! It's very important to me because it's more easier to make film score now. Waiting for Microsoft... when they will add clip moving to new Media Foundation engine too :-)

Am I right in saying you CANNOT move MP4 regardless of setting?

You can't move any video format without this settings in Aud.ini

I still don't understand why this is an issue? We're not asking for full video editing... Just to start a video at the 2nd bar. It's such a crazy shortcoming. My #1 complaint about Sonar. Not that I'm gonna quit using it, but it's so annoying. Dealing with it right now...

scook Noel has explained it several times, here is the most recent post http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3319000
It's been explained but it doesn't make sense. It makes sense on some technical level but it seems like such a nothing thing. And changing that setting basically makes every video file a client sends me either not load or load really slow. So I'm better off doing what I do... which is trim in from some trial & error point so i can line up where I want my first beat to be with the first bar. So annoying. On the plus side, I think I just got it. By trimming in at 13:40, it all lined up for the film I'm working on. If I could have just moved the video a hair, it would have been all fine though with no guess work.

Listen guys, I have been asking for decent video handling for the last 5 years.... There is allways a good reason not to fix it, meanwhile, every other DAW on the market has this thing covered even Reaper (50$) was allready passed this 2 years ago... Cakewalk just doesn't care... I'm really pissed off.. Cakewalk, stop inventing new ProChannel plugins, there are allready too much of them, and fix the darn Video handling, some of us are getting really fed up...

I've explained in the other thread that our hands are tied until Microsoft releases a fix to handle this issue. Its not that we don't care to fix it. We would have done so years ago.

How come then all the other competing DAWs dont have this issue, some are way ahead and enable you to have multiple video tracks with many videos per track, some enable you to cut and paste video as easily as if it was audio... I live in Montreal where there there are big videogame game shops: Ubisoft (with whom I worked) EA etc.. I know of a music writer team that opted for Sonar and then dropped it... guess why... Maybe post production workers represents a small portion of your clients and therefore your company thinks that giving them the propper tools is less important. But I think that you are looking at this the wrong way. I think post production workers represent a small portion of your clients BECAUSE you do not give them the propper tools. I know this sounds hard, but I have allways rooted for Cakewalk and talked about it in a good way to my fellow musician friends, but now Cakewalk is going to have to deliver on the video side of things. I bought so many Sonar evolutions since Sonar 3 and each time I was expecting video to be fully functional and it NEVER happened.. NEVER!
