Is it possible to auto-hide tracks in the Console View?

OK this might be a silly question but I'm just now learning the finer details of the post-Sonar 8.5 UI. I'm sure there is a way to do this but maybe I'm just missing it, or maybe there is an alternative to doing what I want.

The Console view fills up pretty quickly as you add tracks. Just one of the Quick Drum Templates will fill the whole console width with tracks (yes, I'm aware that I can switch to narrow strips). What I'm hoping for is a way to auto-hide all tracks in the console when the folder that contains those tracks is collapsed. I'm also aware of the Track Manager and that I can manually hide/show tracks or groups of tracks. I also know I can do this more or less with screensets however that is also a manual configuration affair.

In the Track Manager there is an option to keep track/console visibility in sync but it means you still need to hide/show the whole folder to make it work.

It seems it would be nice to be able to hide/show all tracks in the console as the folder that contains those tracks are collapsed/expanded.

A collapsed folder does not hide tracks in either the track or console view. A collapsed folder does remove the tracks from the track view but the tracks are still not hidden. The console view does not understand folders at all.

Well it hides the tracks in the track view in the sense that they aren't ... visible when collapsed? I'm aware that the console view doesn't understand folders. I'm just saying it would be nice to link the track visibility in the console view to the expanded/collapsed state of the tracks' parent folder in the track view.

I was just hoping there was already a way to get this behavior.

You can hide tracks in the CV by using the Track Manager.

Rather than playing with semantics, you can translate your hopes into actions by filling out a feature request form.

Yes, and I explained in the first post why the Track Manager is not the ideal way to do it. So the answer is basically, "No, it cannot be done right now - Best to file a feature request".

Not playing semantics here. When you can't see a track, it is hidden. There is no other term to describe something that isn't visible to you. But yes your suggestion to file a feature request is good, I just wanted to confirm there wasn't already another way to do this.

I use the shortcut key H, which brings up the Track Manager, all the time.

I find it very convenient to pick and choose what I want to display.

I also find that if I have less that I'm looking at, especially in the Track view, that I focus my attention more on what I need to work on at the present.

In the Console view there are nice options you can select, like not to show muted tracks or frozen tracks, etc. that enable you to keep the list of tracks displayed in the Console at a more reasonable count.  Additionally, thin strips enables you to see more tracks in the same real estate in the Console view.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Sure you were. But it does not matter. Nor does it matter that hidden could also be described as not visible (the term you used when describing there was no other term than hidden), concealed or a number other synonyms.

I think the more important point here is that you cannot say a track that isn't visible is not hidden. In UI development, which I do a lot of, "hidden" means the control (ie, track etc) isn't visible to the user. It doesn't matter whether it is made so by explicitly checking a checkbox to hide it, or whether it is hidden due to it's parent folder being collapsed.

But yes, I should not have said there was no other term than hidden, what I should have said is hidden is not an invalid term to use. Semantics yes, but doesn't make saying "hidden" for tracks in a collapsed folder wrong though

@original post: The answer is No. But I think it would be a nice addition so submit a feature request (but make it optional, please).
