Is it possible to use ChordMem VST in MC5?

I have a VST I'd really like to use in MC5 called ChordMem which allows you to program up to 7 chords so that each one can then be triggered using one key. To do this it needs an input from a MIDI device and then to output to a soft synth but I'm struggling to see how I can do this.

Has anyone else successfully used this VST in Music Creator or know how a VST utility like this can be used?

Thanks

MC has VST support so it should run just fine.

I don't normally have any problems with VSTs and this seems to function ok, but what I'm struggling with is how to route it. When I use a VST synth, I mount it as an instrument track, then select the input from either a midi track or my midi keyboard, then output to the master.

With this VST it's necessary to output to a synth and I can't work out if or how that can be done.

Yes.... you can link to a synth.

If you're not familiar with how to do that manually by adding a midi track and an audio track, setting them up and linking them.... have a look at my webpage http://www.herbhartley.com/hh2_edited_slimmer_005.htm   you should be able to find what you need there.

When I first started, that was the only way I used synths..... add the tracks and link manually. It's actually pretty easy..... if you have problems, let me know.

First of all thanks for that info, useful stuff to know and I didn't realise you could link a MIDI track to an audio track with a synth mounted in FX like that.

But back to my issue. If I link a VST that outputs sound using this method all is well, but this ChordMem VST doesn't output sound. What it does is let you program a series of notes to a particular key press to enable you to play complex chords with one finger. As an example, if you press a middle C it will send out midi information to sound several notes, whatever the middle C key has been programmed with. So to operate it needs an input from a MIDI keyboard and output to a soft synth, but I can't see how you can insert this VST in the middle of a chain such as MIDI keyboard > ChordMem VST > VST synth.

You simply set the routing so that the keyboard sends it's midi to the midi track. the VST receives the midi in the routing and channel set up and in turn sends the audio out.

Set it up like my page says to do.

Try this: when inserting the VST, make sure that the 'Enable MIDI Output' box is checked.
Insert it in an empty MIDI track, set the input to your keyboard and the output to whatever output you're using, soft synth or keyboard.
    Maybe that will work...

The plug-in must be configured as a synth if the scanner does not see it as one. This can be done in the plug-in manager.

Insert ChordMem into an instrument track making sure the "Enable MIDI Output" is checked in the "Insert Soft Synth Options" dialog. Then add the synth which will play the output of ChordMem. Set the input of the synth to ChordMem MIDI Omni. Make sure both ChordMem and the synth have Input Echo on.

Note: With SONAR X2 (the product which MC6 was is on) there were issues using more than one plug-in which generated MIDI output. The issue was fixed with SONAR X3.

Well after taking on board all the suggestions and some tinkering I have now got it working.

I think the crucial thing was checking the 'Enable MIDI Output' box, which I didn't even know existed!

    Thanks again.
