Is it possible to use soft synths with Pro Audio 9?

I cannot see how to connect.  I have Xpress Keyboards from Native Instruments

I don't have the product but the info I see says it can run as a VST plugin and standalone.
To use it as a VST plugin you would need to get the VST Wrapper.  PA9 can not do VST without the wrapper.  Sometimes the info about a product is not very clear and it could be a VSTi (VST Instrument).  In that case you can't use it as a plugin even if you have the VST wrapper.

You might be able to connect PA9 to Xpress if you use the standalone version of the product.

What have you tried so far?

Xpress supports DXi which is allegedly supported by Pro Audio 9.  I have installed and activated Xpress Keyboards and heard sounds out of it stand alone.  I understand Pro Audio fairly well for editing and sequencing using hardware sound modules.  They get old and are harder and harder to find so I thought it would be nice to make the switch to soft synths.

PA9 does not support DXi.  Only DX.  If you have installed Xpress as a stand alone application, have you looked to see if it is visible in PA9 via Options?Midi Devices....    ?

I'm giving up!  I have used Cakewalk since Pro IV for DOS and I have reminded Mr. Hendershot that he has turned his back on the people that got him where he is today.  I have found Pro Audio 9 to be remarkably solid and since I still use my Roland 1880 for recording it's all I need.  I'm just going to pick up a couple of JV-1010 modules.  (I have more backup than NASA)  I do thank you for your help.

it's called progress whether you like it or not.. I think it's a tad harsh to say he's turned his back on you though, the pc's have improved.. and so has the software..

if your a registered user you can also contact support.. they will help.. but obviously you can't get updates..

Slight misunderstanding on the "turned his back" statement.  I'm all for progress and I believe that Cakewalk products are solid for the most part.  I would like to have seen the sequencer line parallel the Sonar line.  I can't believe it would have taken that much of an effort.

I agree. I've done nothing constructive since Sonar came out except upgrade hardware, upgrade software, upgrade hardware ... Fix this, workaround that. Don't know how I got in this rut. Oh yes. Now i remember. Softsynths and plugins....
