Why do you want to move on from MC6?

    That's a very capable program, I can't imagine anything you can't do.

Maybe after X2b is released. If you upgrade now, you won't be able to clone MIDI tracks.

the plug ins are what the big difference is.
and your talking about an entry level software compared to a more realistic studio software.

you cant clone a midi track ?
    I wasn't aware of that.

what's the work around, to just copy it to a new midi track ?

It was confirmed by Dan Gonzalez at Cakewalk on Jan 24 (according to my email). The plus and minus buttons in the Repetitions field don't work, and directly entering a value in the field displays this error message "Please enter a value from 0 through 0." Strange, isn't it?
The work around Dan told me was "When you want to add more Audio or MIDI tracks please select that track and hold SHIFT and select 0 repeatedly," which I think isn't a workaround at all for cloning tracks, but is just a faster way to add tracks. Cloning audio tracks works fine.

good to know man, thank you.
    I hadn't the slightest.

clone audio Trks all the time, not midi though,i usually copy midi tracks though by holding CNTL and dragging to a new midi track.

    thank you for this info

I must not be understanding this correctly cause I just cloned session drummer 3 and its midi content track and it worked.
do you mean cloning midi layers ?

I clone the midi track by selecting the track first/then in the track box ,right clicked, clone track.
    the box comes up/hit okay.

Chuck, I didn't clearly state this so maybe I confused you, but this bug, according to Cake, is only present in Essential. I did a clean reinstall of X2(a) at least twice, including one clean Win 7 reinstall (not just to solve this issue, of course), but this error didn't go away. So I do think it's a version-specific bug.

Biggest differences for me were more tracks/effects/synths in a project and the ability to have more than two simultaneous inputs while tracking.  If you have't ran into either of these issues as constraints and MC6 is working for you then there isn't a compelling reason to upgrade.

    HOWEVER

Unless the $70 for the upgrade (you are aware that if you buy this as a download/upgrade in the cakewalk store you get a significant discount) will hurt your budget, I thik that the additional plugs (Boost 11 in particular) would make upgrading to Essential a smart thing to do.

It is really worth watching the monthly specials in the Cakewalk Store.  Occasionally they drop the upgrade price for Studio or Producer to a price point that you just can not reasonably refuse.

    For 49.00 it's worth a Look.

It's only £49.00 if you already have a Sonar product (except LE). It's £69.00 with anything else Cakewalk. Unless I'm mistaken and Cakewalk consider MC6 to be a version of Sonar X1. http://www.store.cakewalk.com/b2cgbp/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=10-CXSE2.00-20E

Does Sonar X2 essentials export 24-bit, 48k WAV files?
I will need to send files to other studios to mixdown to whatever they want.

I was disappointed to be restricted in MC6 to 16-bit 44.1k, after the info on the website mislead me into believing it answered the above question. Cakewalk had actually downgraded MC6 from MC5 in that respect.

Does the 64-bit engine in SX2 make a huge difference from the 32-bit one in MC6?

    Thank you,

    Lee.
