Is the 'Get Windows 10' app slowing down your PC?

Since that little window installed itself on my rig during the last round of Windows updates, I am having some issues. My spacebar is not starting and stopping my music like it should. anyone having any trouble with this app?

No, because I don't do the updates unless there is a need, and in the 18 or so months since I built my rigs, there hasn't been a need, and I am quite happy with W7 Pro, no intention of moving further until it is absolutely necessary due to software or hardware support etc.

Having said that, on one of my laptops which I use for the net, which i do update from time to time, I did get the feeling of a possible slow down since I last updated, which contained the Windows 10 thingy, nothing drastic, but I did think it wasn't quite as snappy, no more updates for me.

Hmmm...wondering if I should do a system restore now. Updates haven't bothered me before. I'm not really sure this one is either. Guess I'll just keep watching it.

It may not be using CPU, but it is annoying. I can't seem to make it go away. I've uninstalled the update, but it comes back. I choose "hide" in the sys tray, and it comes back every boot.

It really pisses me off when some corporate clown thinks it's OK to put something on my desktop without asking my permission.

Screw you, Microsoft. We can't even update to 10 for a year. You gonna make my look at your icon for a year? Screw you.

(That felt good. Thanks!)

Mine is running as well as ever - 30+ synths on buffer 256 with no latency. I DID run into a massive latency issue earlier in the month - turns out the LP64 Multiband was causing it (I normally never use it until mixing). I don't advise using that plug until you're done programming/tracking.

hmm... I haven't updated my DAW for a little while so I haven't gotten that particular thingie. Anyone know the specific item name in WIndows Update so I can disable it?

Also... I have not been seeing it on my laptop which I update regularly. Is it perhaps in the Optional Updates? I never unstall those so perhaps that's why (in which case I won't have to worry about it on my DAW either).

Cheers.

Grum,

I'm talking about what the thread title says.

It's a little icon that, when clicked, takes you to a page about upgrading to Windows 10.

I'd love to know how to get rid of it.

there may be another reason for the slow down, I signed up for a free upgrade to windows 10, and I have not noticed any slowdown whatsoever on my computer, or any program or app, it doesn't seem to have any effect here.

On Windows 7 Pro, it appears to be update KB3035583 that is the problem.

Consider yourself lucky! You might want to watch out for it. If you don't mark it for updating, it won't install.

Wooops. I misspoke. I do have that update. And I have no problems with using mt space bar to start or stop a SONAR project.

Thanks. I see it on my Win Home Premium install and it is indeed in the Optional Updates section so I'm good here.

Seriously thank you for that. I was kind of wondering why I wasn't seeing it since everyone else is but I also did not want to be nagged about it all the time. I want to try Win10 but I actually don't want to use the "upgrade" method if at all possible. I would rather use my license, get the full program and then do a clean install. Not sure if that is even possible and I have yet to research it (but will).

Cheers.

I read up on that upgrade program. It is available July 29 and will be ready to run on that date. It also said that the required files would be placed on your computer before that time so it's ready for the 29th. No idea how much space I need to reserve or when things will be installed.

Re: Is the 'Get Windows 10' app slowing down your PC? 2015/06/20 21:14:45 (permalink)
OK, I uninstalled the bugger (KB3035583) and hid that update so hopefully it won't install again. I keep my music rig offline most of the time, and really could probably run Windows 7 Pro for the rest of my life without any more updates. just install new software from an external drive after downloading from my other computer.

Incidentally, I checked on my other computer, which is a triple booter, and the thing did install on one of my W7 Home Premium drives. It's the same update (see above). That one I will probably fool around with to see if W10 is going to be worth it. I use the Vista drive most of the time, however. Fully updated Vista with SP2 is in my opinion Micro's best OS. but then, I'm kind of a retro-type guy....
