Is the UM-3G a Midi Patchbay?

Hello,
I bought a UM-3G with the hopes of connecting multiple midi devices, controlled via one single footcontroller. It doesn't work.

I have a Roland FC-300 connected to the UM-3G's Port 1 In.
Port 2 Out goes to a Fractal Audio Axe-Fx Ultra.
Port 3 Out goes to a Roland GM-70.
UM-3G's USB is connected to a Macbook, to midi control Ableton Live, Absynth plugin, and Mobius looper.
The FC-300 is supposed to control all the devices above, on separate midi channels for each.

Driver was installed in OSX 10.5.8, devices were routed accordingly in the Audio/Midi Setup panel. The UM-3G's icon appeared there with no problems.
Tried midi tests and nothing happened.
Selected Thru switches for Port 1 off (USB), Ports 2 and 3 on (Axe-Fx and GM-70)

Tried controlling the Axe-Fx, nothing happened. Opened Midi Monitor, there is midi being sent from the FC-300 but nothing happens on the Axe-Fx (the Axe-Fx's Midi In led blinks, there should be a connection). Both FC-300 and Axe-Fx were set up for midi channel 1.

Then I moved the midi cable from Port 2 to the out from Port 1, switched to Thru, and then the Axe-Fx responded.

From all the above, does this mean that the UM-3G cannot send from the Midi In Port 1 to the Midi Outs in Ports 2 and 3? Isn't it supposed to work as a midi patch bay?

I appreciate your reply as there is no info about this anywhere, thank you

well you have 3 sets of in's and outs listed in your sequencer ? your input is "omni" , which will accept midi from *ANYWHERE*  , and are you echo'ing on multiple channels ? when you just want to control whats armed/highlighted..

I wouldn't say it's a midi patch bay no, midi interface.. YES..

do you know the basics of midi , because the input / output don't have to be same chain etc.. if you set your sequencer up correctly... can't speak for live as I don't unit.

I think your issue is what your transmitting on / omni mode.. or even the units ur using being in local mode.. have a look into all 3 perhaps
