Is there A place to Download Guitar Tab for SONAR?
Hello, Is there a place to download guitar tab and play it in sonar? Tab that looks like songsterr tab (what I mean is it shows the ties and music but is still tab, if that makes sense- not just text) I'm wondering because I could practice to the tab at a slower tempo etc.... anyone know if it's possible. I don't have a midi keyboard or midi guitar. And typing it in seemed to take forever. Thanks, Paintscraper

I'm not sure I fully understand your question, but I use the program Guitar Pro for TAB. There are lots of tab on the net, and inputting Tab is easy. It can play the tabs itself, or you can export as MIDI, load it into Sonar and use it's VSTis to play the instruments back.

I think you are looking for MIDI files. MIDI files will translate to the Staff View which has a Tablature view. There are TONS of MIDI guitar files out there for exactly this type of thing. As jb101 mentioned take a look at Guitar Pro however any MIDI file will work. The downside is Sonar Tab/Staff View aren't as powerful and useful as other programs like Guitar Pro for this specific task. I think the latest version of GP is going for around $60. It's a big program though.

Yes, If I could find the tab in Midi format I could import it and then, it would put it into tab format for me. I don't have Guitar Pro. Thanks paintscraper

Google it and download. Ultimate-guitar.com has thousands of tabs for it. Similar to GPro, but free. Again, export as MIDI, bung in Soar, or it will play them itself, but doesn't sound as good a GPro. It's a very good program.

this is my favorite site. when finding a tune click on the white box,for some reason the download button is completely white...lol they always make things harder then need be. http://freemidi.org/ keep in mind when opening in sonar these are whole songs so you need to find just the guitar track. to do it right i also assign drums 2 the drum track, exc, exc.

TablEdit is a good one, you can import ASCII tab (which seems to represent most of the tab on the net) and export it as MIDI.

The problem with Importing MIDI files into Sonar is that it will not intepret the notes into Tab correctly. It still takes a fair bit of understanding and experience to correctly map the notes. Take a C note one octave above middle C - it can be played on the 2nd string 1st fret, 3rd string 5th fret, 4th string 10th fret, 5th string 15th fret or 6th string 20th fret. So, for example, there are at least 16 ways to finger the notes C-D (not including octaves). Throw in another note and the possible fingering (Tab) options increase even higher. Properly interpreting the frets is no small matter. As jb101 and sharke mentioned, check out PowerTab, TablEdit or Guitar Pro, they may suit your needs better. They also allow altering the tempo so you can slow the music down.
